Thank god they eliminated his character. I'm glad they're actually making improvements to the show.
And now I'm looking forward to seeing it again this weekend.
I guess Andrew Call could take over Bruce. But if Johnny the Drunk is eliminated, who else is in Barry's band? It would be just Barry and Matt "Mohawk" Caplan.

I hope Andrew gets something more written for him. I love him.
But if Johnny the Drunk is eliminated, who else is in Barry's band?
Andrew or the other guy- the one that plays Sarah.

Oh, sorry, guess I wasn't clear. The guy who used to play the drunk guy (I never actually saw the show when this part existed) still plays Bruce but he also now plays the part of a very odd guy named T.M.P.M.I.T.W. who walks around the store with headphones. I can't remember what all the letters stand for, but maybe someone else who's seen the show in the last few days knows.
"plays the part of a very odd guy named T.M.P.M.I.T.W. who walks around the store with headphones..."
Is that any better of a character than Johnny the Drunk?

I actually really liked the character...but that's just me...

I haven't seen the musical, but I have read the book. And T-M-P-M-I-T-W stands for The Most Pathetic Man in the World. It's what Rob calls this incredibly sad, absurdly, uh, pathetic guy he has a run in with. And he's essentially Rob's nightmare version of who he might turn into. I don't know how they do it in the musical, but it's a VERY funny character in the book. Johnny the Drunk was also a character in the book, a pretty big one actually, but he was essentially your garden variety crazy drunk who wandered into the store every day. I could see how that might be annoying onstage. Interesting that the writers are putting in characters that weren't in the movie though. It sounds like this show might be closer to the book, which makes me happy - I enjoyed it much more than the film. Looking forward to seeing it (though I'm also scared.) Sounds promising though.
EDIT: Cholly beat me to it. But I also enjoyed both characters in the book. Sad that Johnny doesn't work as well onstage.
In the book TMPMITW stands for The Most Pathetic Man In The World. But I don't remember him actually being in the store... I thought he saw (and named) him when he went to the movies. Granted, again, based only on the book - i haven't seen the show at all.

That's exactly what he's like on stage as well and it's exactly how Rob explains him--that he's becoming this guy. You never see him outside of the store though. I thought he was really funny.

I ended up not being able to go to the show tonight, and I'm very sad I don't get to see the changes. Hopefully I will get to see it in NYC when it gets there.
TMPMITW is seen at Marie's concert. He has to move his car, I believe.
I really wish they made Marie a bigger character. I love her character in the book. I actually wish all characters were bigger, except Rob. I found most very underwritten. Dick was very well written, and I would have like to see Barry and him in more scenes.
