Posted: 8/21/06 at 7:20pmI'm really not sure. I've seen at least three logos for this, and I'd prefer either of the other two. This one just bothers me. I'm not really a fan of any show poster that has actual pictures of people on it.

Posted: 8/21/06 at 9:28pmIf they have to have people's pictures on it, at least let me see Will's face!
Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)

I don't like the yellow, but other than that it's not bad. That's a cute picture.
mejusthavingfun, your insight on this subject is incredible.

no, not actual lemons, but a big yellow blob in the shape of a lemon...i'd like to see the aforementined previous logos in consideration to see if they took a step in a better direction...
with this the age of digital technology, i am still amazed at how many bad logos we get for shows...
side show, fidelity, into the woods revival all just miss the mark.
get whoever designed Wicked's logo or Any of the Disney logos, or any of the Cameron Mackintosh show logos. They know the importance of 'branding' your show to the pop culture, and generally, shows that do this have the more effective logos.

The movie logo was much more effective. The use of actual records and the conceit of a record album fit perfectly, but there was the lack of a feminine presence to indicate mow much the show was about relationships, which at least this artwork has. The new Company artwork misses the boat in exactly the opposite direction, so no one is immune, I suppose.
Several of the book covers do a better job suggesting the nature of the story. Such as:
or
What I don't like about this is that it looks like the Wedding Singer poster minus all the color, fun, and humor. Audiences aren't going to eat this show up for it being "contemporary." Unless it's very edgy that sort of thing just doesn't sell.
If they want to sell tickets they've got to find a way to play up visually the elements they're promoting in the press release and show description. There is an alternate movie poster that does a good job of that, but I can't seem to get it to show up here, so you'll have to click on this link to see it:

If the producers of the show are reading this, feel free to steal my idea, but if I were designing for the show I'd feature Will Chase looking out the window of his record shop at an array of women passing by, a la the poster above, perhaps with some subtle cues in the titles of the records he's sorting through, just to make it interesting for us collectors. Remember, it's got to pop out when you plaster it above Times Square, and this black-and-white design just won't.

Posted: 8/24/06 at 11:02pmIt seems that they are using that yellow circle and various photographs for the logo. I saw an ad for it in Boston, and seem to remember a photo being there, but not that one (because I would have grabbed that paper - I really like that photo).

Posted: 8/24/06 at 11:17pmI think that's a great picture of Will and Jenn. I usually don't think pictures capture how pretty Jenn is, but I think she looks beautiful. I have to agree, I'm not a fan on the yellow ... blob. I did catch the beginning of the movie tonight, and TiVoed it so I can watch it. I really enjoyed it. The record store thing is reminiscent of another of my favorite movies, Empire Records, so I immediately enjoyed it. And I agree with the producers, the movie completely lends itself to the stage. Rob does a lot of narration to the camera, which can be done to the audience. I was also able to figure out where two songs on the demo, 'Desert Island' and 'She Goes', if they're still in the show, will fit into the show. I'm really looking forward to it.
