Aww, I love Mandy in Evita.

I just can't stand his voice. It's so...delicate? I guess. And I don't really think his voice really fit into the whole "rock opera" thing.

Guys.. don't worry about munk... you're completely wrong if you don't have the same opinion as him, so forget arguing.
High Fidelity was a badass show. I saw it twice before it closed, and I've liked it better than most shows I've seen over the past year. The recording is good; however, the tempos on some of the songs were slowed down and, in the opening number, a lot of the dialouge was changed, and it shouldn't have been touched.
The score is quite good, and most of the lyrics are very good. To me it seems a lot of people hate lyrics that include references to popular culture, and I'm not sure why that is. Overall the cd is great though.
That's not true at all. I never would have said another word about HIGH FIDELITY had magic not gotten on my case. It's here in black and white, just read.
Before you say something like that, make sure you know what you're talking about.
Though I don't understand why some of you are acting as if I'm the only one with these opinions. The show ran for 2 weeks. Please. I'm not alone.

Haha, I disagree, but that's cool if that's how you want to look at it. Once again, I'm not up for arguing, not a fan.
Anyways, no matter what anyone says, and I do acknowledge that a lot of people didn't like the show, it's only an opinion, and you can argue opinions to the end of time, but they usually won't change.

Evita is Trash....mostly. Most of the good music is in the recit-like moments. A few numbers are good, but mostly it's a mixed up, misguided show with little direction, and a protagonist that you have little or no sympathy for unless you're just a sappy person.

I think Webber was brillant in the 70s, but then just went downhill. He took a little known figure (at least to my generation) and made her into this iconic rock-opera figure. I think it's pretty cool and most of the melodies are beautiful, even if some of the lyrics are litte "WTF."
As for High Fidelity...Well, I got my CD and I was excited for it because I loved the packaging and seeing the set and stuff, but the score is pretty lackluster. None of the songs are rememorable, and the lyrics aren't as witty as some people have said. I'm not sure what people see in the score. Really, the only songs I like are "Cryin the Rain" and "It's No Problem." Maybe they play better on stage, but they aren't that great. And I really liked "Too Tired" until she said "What the Hey." Honestly, what a dumb lyric. I know she was trying to rhyme, but making an actor say that is just horrible.
Wow, didn't start this thread so people could bash the show. I still don't understand why some people insist on posting nasty things about the show, when the point of this thread was to share an OFFICIAL REVIEW.
I, for one, enjoyed this show much more than the so called classics of this year (i.e Spring Awakening). I don't believe the problem was in the music, the storyline was aimed at the wrong audience. And for the record, THIS SHOW WAS 100 Times better in person than on record and there is not many cd's that I own that I can say that about.

if you didn't like it, here's the next question: did you actually see the show live?
Did I see the show, yes, twice. Do I think it is the best new score on Broadway this year, no. Do I think it is better than the Tony-nominated score of Legally Blonde, yes. The score is fun and was not the show's problem. The book was the problem. Although the entire idea of writing a musical for and about "music snobs" who would never even think about listening to a cast album doomed the show from the start if you ask me.
