Hey everyone! So I've had a fabulous weekend. I was in NYC Friday and Saturday (reviews to come later) and last night I saw the final performance of High Fidelity! It was fantastic.
I have to say, I saw the show about two weeks ago and loved it. I thought it was fresh, and new and with a great cast. I knew some things needed to be worked on, but overall I thought it was great. And when I saw the show last night, it was even better. They've begun to flesh out the character of Laura more, the first song isn't as long, TMPMITW is way better than Johnny the Drunk, and it flows really well. What is amazing is how much it's improved in only the span of two weeks.
Standouts again were obviously Will Chase and Jenn Colella. Jenn especially this time considering they've added much more to her character. Christian Anderson constantly steals the show. Rachel Stern is incredible as Liz, they made a good choice moving her up. The ensemble is so strong, and so much fun to watch. They make the show. They are all amazing.
They were having some audio problems, and the pre-show announcement didn't start, so we had to wait another five minutes. In the end, they decided not to play the real one and had some guy get on over the michrophone and do a boring one. It was sad, I love the real one. And the rewind sound in the rewind song started when the lights were already up. Just small technical glitches that can easily be worked out.
Stagedoor afterwards was great. Jon Patrick Walker was wearing a High Fidelity hat, and it said Boston and I wanted it. Everyone was soooo nice. Rachel Stern is hilarious! We were talking about Tarzan and she said, "My mother asked me if I really wanted to leave Disney to go do a rock and roll musical and I was like, hell yes!" It's such a great group of people. There are still a few things that need to be tweaked, but the show is in great shape. I really hope it does well. I encourage everyone to go see it, your going to love it!

Posted: 10/23/06 at 7:02pmI saw it and admired the energetic performances, but in the end wasn't too thrilled with the show. I don't want to "bad mouth" the show since it was only pre-Broadway tryouts, but I'm a little worried about the outcome of this show on Broadway. Good luck to the cast!

Posted: 10/23/06 at 7:59pmI think as long as the marketing is good for NYC, this shouldn't bomb at all. I expect it to run at least a year, or as long as the Wedding Singer. The final performance was really solid and enjoyable. As long as they can find their audience, it should do great.

Posted: 10/23/06 at 10:43pmI was upset that the preshow announcement was changed as well. I have been told by a pretty reliable source though that the old one (with the cursing, etc.) may come back. They wanted to see how the show played with a normal preshow announcement.

Posted: 10/23/06 at 11:35pmI for one am glad they changed the pre-show announcement...the old one sounded so forced and trying to be "RADICAL!" that it just made me annoyed.

Posted: 10/24/06 at 12:21amThe old announcement got the audience relaxed and invovled in the show before it even started. The regular announcement didn't do that. I thought of it as a kind of warm-up. I liked it (but I tend to have a pretty bad "potty mouth" anyway so maybe I am not sucha good judge). :)

I really don't think this has much of a chance on Broadway... maybe in a less crowded season.
The second act just doesn't work, although the first act is vastly improved.
