Hello, Dolly!
Two of the three first mentioned as "overdone"...I completely agree
This fall.... LITTLE SHOP~~!!!!.....or my fair lady
I now pose a question: In your HS or when you were in HS, if you had performed three run of the mill traditional musicals and had the op to finally do something a little off beat and disturbing....who wouldn't wanna do LSoH?
Some of my classmates wanna do My FAir Lady over LS and it is driving my crazy, because any of the last three senior classes would have picked little shop hands down! It's so unexpected for our conversative town and a rare chance to do a contemporary musical. We even went as a class to see the tour!~! What's wrong with these people!!!
Feed, my Seymour!!!....you don't get any better than that!
I wish I could do Funny Girl somewhere! I love it!

Please don't insult My Fair Lady in my presence. :P Little Shop is cute, but nearly the musical My Fair Lady is. However, LSOH might be better-suited to a high school production, because you're going to have to find a hell of a leading lady to play Eliza- you need serious stamina and soprano range for that role. The leads in LSOH don't have such rigorous singing requirements.

I don't think My Fair Lady would be very entertaining for a high school to watch, either. I mean, I've seen the show and I think I enjoyed it more because I'm an actor and I appreciate the classic show and the work that is required for Eliza especially, but I think Little Shop would be a little more fun to go and see.
While I was in high school, we did "Brigadoon," "My Fair Lady," "Carousel" and "Damn Yankees." I think we did "My Fair Lady" the best, because that was the year we had the most solid singing talent. "Carousel" was a disaster, not least because the show sucks to start with. It's the only show we did that I am honestly ashamed of. "Damn Yankees" was a much better effort and I'm so glad I got to do that senior year instead of "Carousel."
As for straight plays, we did "Charley's Aunt," "Marvin's Room," "The Curious Savage" and "The Importance of Being Earnest." The spring shows were all children's theater: "Peter Pan" (not the musical), "Alice in Wonderland," "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (a dumbed-down version; our running joke was that we killed the adaptor with all the changes and additions we made) and "Robin Hood." Fun times...
My school doesn't even do plays anymore. I wish we did. I would love to do "The Bad Seed". I only saw the movie, but I really liked it.

Let me clear things up a bit:
I actually really like My Fair Lady. But, numero uno, I definately don't want to follow a weak Hello, Dolly! with a show in the same time period and costuming. And number 2, this could be one of the last musicals i ever do...I've done classical...many times. give me offbeat!:)
p.s. We actually do have an eliza, but she'd make a heckof an Audrey, too (no pun intended)
The Bad Seed was alright. The show is pretty chilling, but I just hated the part of Reginald Tasker, which is who I was. I don't think I put enough effort into the part to give it a chance, but I just didn't have much fun doing that show. In fact, I had to keep from laughing because of some of the horrible actors that were part of that show. The guys, of course. Sigh.

When I was in highschool, we did Godspell, Return to the Forbidden Planet (AWESOME show even if it did fly right over the audience's head), Fame (ugh), the Wizard of Oz and the Sound of Music.
While I wasn't there, my old school did Little Shop, JCS, Joseph and Tommy.
