Not sure about the Highland Farms Inn, but the nearby Barley Sheaf Inn (former home of George S. Kaufman), is spectacular, but admittedly more of a splurge.

I was looking for more of a theatre related vacation that is driving distance from Long Island or Massetchusets (we already visited Stow)
