"...given the crowded landscape of works on Stonewall, 'Hit The Wall' was bound to be a disappointment, and in that it doesn’t disappoint. But there are strengths in the production that somewhat offset the flaws."
Hit The Wall Review: Play About Stonewall Riots Around the Corner from Stonewall
Chris Jones from the Chicago Tribune reviews the New York production and comments that due to changes in this new staging some crucial concepts have been lost in the move from Chicago's Off-Loop to New York's Off-Broadway. He still gives it a thumbs up but wishes its original staging had been duplicated more faithfully.

Thank you for pointing out this Chicago review. I WONDERED how Hit The Wall could have been a big hit in Chicago. It didn't occur to me the reason is because it was very different there
An excellent review highlighting some of the problems of both the play and the production.

Has anyone seen any of the other Stonewall plays mentioned -- such as the Tina Landau one on the pier, or Street Theater by Doric Wilson?
I'd be curious to hear more abou the Landau play too. It sounds like it might have been more of a performance piece with such a large cast, etc.
Thanks for posting those links Growl and Jon. It does sound like he show was much more interesting, and unconventional in Chicago. I wonder why they decided to make it more of a, umm, "regular" play with music.
