MARY POPPINS isn't even slated to hit Broadway until Fall of 2006. That's a long way off. It could easily go in a theatre like the Imperial or the Broadway.
I, contrary to some reports here, keep hearing that WOMAN IN WHITE is lined up for the Minskoff, not the Marquis, which makes a lot more sense if you've seen how the projections work.
The Walter Kerr isn't a musical house, but some theatres like the Booth and the Brooks Atkinson have housed more intimate musicals. Perhaps something like the WEDDING SINGER will end up there.

Posted: 5/24/05 at 5:04amUrinetown played its entire run at Henry Miller's Theatre on West 43rd Street. The Walter Kerr is on West 48th Street. Henry Miller's has since been demolished, except for the facade, and a new theatre is going to be constructed behind it, which will open in 2008.

Posted: 5/24/05 at 9:08amOpposite of Sex would never play the Marquis. Way to cavernous a space for the intimate musical. It could possibly be a good fit for the Kerr, minus Magruder's comment about orchestra size. But the cast is the right size and the music doesn't require (at least it didn't with prior orchestrations) for a large pit.

To be honest some of these shows will probably not open in NYC, at least not on Broadway. I can't imagine a show like THE OPPOSITE OF SEX finding an audience in a Broadway house. It would have been perfect for the now defunct Variety Arts, or even Dodger Stages.
And I second Magruder's opinion that the Public is probably already perusing the idea of a Broadway transfer of TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA, should it prove to be a smash at the Delacorte this summer.
Oddly enough, that seems like a more likely scenario then THE COLOR PURPLE, OPPOSITE OF SEX, and THE WEDDING SINGER all landing on Broadway in the next season.
