"JLY as Marius?!
Sorry, I have trouble picturing that, but it should be interesting..."
I know. I will be watching with apprehension and curiosity and trying mightily to erase the image of Michael Ball in my mind.

Hollywood Bowl Les Mis Cast!
Hopefully, it does not turn out to be Hollywood Bowl LES MISCAST.
What is going on with the comments in this post? The return of the weird page-end error, apparently.

I think the whole Frankie "falsetto" thing is throwing you.
But in his concert he sang some lovely legit rich sounding songs, like "Til" and "What a Difference a Day Makes" and a few others. He actually had this "voice" moreso that anyone would think.
From his blog ( April 21, 2008 ) :
Excited to be playing "Marius" in an all-star concert of LES MISERABLES this summer at the Hollywood Bowl. When I first got to New York, I was doing a play with Target Margin Theatre Company when I got an audition for "Marius" in the Broadway tour, and I made it all the way to final callbacks. So in the auditions for this production, I reached back inside, pulled out and dusted off my natural high-baritenor for the creative team, who weren't so sure what to expect a few years and a very-surprising-falsetto-turn later. Very glad I'll finally get a shot at this role I've hoped to play since 1987!

Well, it should be interesting, that's for sure. The convergence of all these people's fan-bases will likely be quite interesting, as well.

Am I the only person who caught JLY at Broadway unplugged in October or Novemeber of 2006? There he sang "Never Will I Marry" a very legit and rangey Frank Loesser song, he was unmiked and very powerful. I think it shocked a few people, who expected his pop-falsetto. I recall thinking "wow what a range!". Very unexpected and exciting.
I expect his Marius to be similar.
I am surprised that they never made that recording public.
Like a show queen on auto pilot I got tickets for this. I do however feel the whole thing sounds boring.

p.s. Scheduling conflict? Side Show revival?
I guess the story has been edited since you last read it, because:
A Bowl spokesperson confirmed to Playbill.com that Lazar, who had been scheduled to portray Enjolras — the part he played in the recent Broadway revival of Les Miz — has been forced to withdraw from the production due to a scheduling conflict. Lazar, Playbill.com has learned, has been cast in the forthcoming Broadway production of A Tale of Two Cities.
OMG!I hope he will not replace James Barbour. I love Aaron Lazar but I cannot picture him as Sydney Carton. However, he would be a fabulous Charles Darney.
So who will play Enjolras? Kevin Earley?

I doubt Kevin Earley can do it since he'll probably be busy rehearsing Valjean (!) by then.

Yeah, that last sentence wasn't included in the story.
I was guessing Side Show was the reason, but it seems that that wouldn't be a conflict.
p.s. A Tale of Two Cities starts August 19th at the Hirshfeld.
Wow, Kevin as Valjean! I so wish I can see it.

Have anyone tried buying tickets for this yet? I've been looking for garden box or terrace box seats but they don't appear to be offered on ticketmaster. Anyone had any luck with those?
Until today, you could only get tickets if you are a season subscriber. Even then it was hard to get a box this late in the game. I have a mini-subscription (5 concets) so I was able to get good seats in the first section behind the terrace boxes. I have a friend who works for the Bowl and is trying to get me an upgrade but it will be tough since Les Miz is part of the subscription series.
Sorry for the double post. My computer froze.
Not very pleased with the seats I got.
I hope someone sells better ones on ebay!
Any idea who's replacing Aaron Lazar?

Any idea who's replacing Aaron Lazar?
This morning, the Hollywood Bowl Audience Services department had no idea, although they had just heard from Promotions to "expect an announcement shortly".
p.s. They didn't know if Ben Davis was being considered for the role.

Tom Lowe? (aka Tom Lucas)
Really? Not that I necessarily object, but it just seems kind of...random. And I hate that word.

I don't like this idea at all.
So far, among all the British Enjolras I saw or heard, there is not one of them impress me very much. I seem to have this problem with all Brithish Enjolras.
JLY's Marius increases my interest to fly to LA to catch the show. This news, on the other hand, kind decreases it a little bit.

Well, if Taylor Hicks and Clay Aiken can be on B'way, it's not a big step down to hire an AI reject for a LaLa Land gig. (Although the guy has a decent singing voice from the random Youtube clips. Not bad on the eyes, either)

Tom Lucas aka Tom Lowe as Marius in West End back in 1999.
