Interesting. I’ve been wondering about the state of our rules about filming. I’ve been saying for years that people scream at producers about filming both legally and illegally but ultimately producers are the ones with the most to gain from filming. The rules are there to protect artists. Now a puff piece in THR about how some producers love the practice of bootlegging. Yet another place where unions and producers are perched for a war?
It’s undeniable that the legal or illegal recordings of certain shows gave them boosts beyond their traditional marketing. It gives people a more tangible way to see into the world of the show. A way that’s far more natural to the art form than the often overstimulating frenzy of most broadway video advertising.
