Posted: 1/3/05 at 11:36pmOk. I have looked over Honk. It looks good, but from what people are telling me Queenie is a Hussy! I know it is just acting, but is this to risky for high school?

The Boston Children's Theatre did it a couple of seasons ago. I say go for it.

Posted: 1/4/05 at 12:14amI have some young-in friends who are still stuck in middle school, and their school is doing Honk this year. I think its perfectly fine. Theatre is about taking chances. If you aren't willing to push the boundaries, then no one will want to do theatre at your school anymore.

Posted: 1/4/05 at 12:45amIt's totally fine for a high school to do. If children's theatres around the country are doing it, it's most definitely appropriate for a high school. If anything I would say it's inappropriate because high schoolers won't want to come to see a musical about the ugly duckling, not because it's too racy.

Posted: 1/4/05 at 12:52amThis is true. I hate how our High school works. There are really good actor.. but ther aren't what you would call "pretty" so they don't get the good roles. The "Pretty" boys can't act or sing and it is horrible!

Posted: 1/4/05 at 1:29pmHonk is not too risky. Its just too boring. Kidding of course- still recovering from a HORRIBLE production of it.

1. I think you mean risqué, not risky.
2. I saw Honk once, when my 7 y.o. cousin was in it. Didn't seem too risqué, but it was only the junior version, so who knows?

Yeah i was in the Junior version over the summer...there was no Queenie in it so i have no clue.
With the situation about only pretty people getting good parts, a musical about an ugly duckling and his animal friends would be perfect!

Posted: 1/4/05 at 6:49pmIt really depends on how lenient your school is. I've seen schools do productions of A Chorus Line and Sweeney Todd, which aren't really appropriate for educational theatre (though I disagree). I did The Last Five Years in high school with has "f*ck" and "sh*t" in it a few times, so it really depends on how strict your school is on stuff like that.

Posted: 1/4/05 at 7:42pmHow did you do L5Y, a TWO person musical, in HIGH SCHOOL?

Posted: 1/4/05 at 8:04pmAt least your high school will let you do a half-way different show. Last year the censored the MUSIC MAN....explain that one to me. I don't think Honk is bad at all....suggest Avenue Q first and then tell them Honk...hee hee...
