I saw a horrible production of this at my school and was convinced it was the worst play I've ever seen. At the same time, I've also heard people say it is such a great and funny script. All I know, is for two and a half hours, I had no idea what was going on. Characters were speaking at the same time and it was difficult to follow any plot.
I just saw TACT is doing a production of this play in May, and I'm curious to check it out. Should I give the play another chance? Should it be entertaining? What do some of you theatre lovers think? I just don't know if I want to subject myself to this play all over again.

It's a lovely moving (now) period piece, which requires wonderful actors who can bring an extreme sense of naturalism to the work, and a director who is almost more of an actor-coach than anything else to make it work. No high concepts here. What's it about? Just what most of Chekhov is about ...

A brilliant, funny and moving Wilson play. A fine, fine playwright, and a fine, fine play.
