Firstly Viciouscircle I wouldn't have posted the message if my source hadn't been reliable. I take unbrage at your tone.
I also remember some mention of this possibilty prior to Christmas, does anyone else recall this?
Over here we don't hold stars in awe quite the way you do in the States, the industry is smaller everyone knows everyone and we can recall when they (Kidman, Jackman, Griffiths, Crowe, Blanchett, Pearce,Ledger etc) were just jobbing actors in local television, film and stage productions. When these people come back home they just blend back into their old surrounds. Sure people will recognise them, but rarely is a fuss made of them and not too many people would be chasing them for autographs/photos etc. Of course if they were sports heroes it would be a different story. I work in the industry and my source is in the industry so I take it as pretty damn reliable. It's up to you if you wish to believe it or not.

Man, if it was true, it is a bad idea. I stongly believe that Ms. Kidman's slight, wispy voice diminished Moulin Rouge, and to suggest she has the voice for Ulla is a sick joke. One of Ulla's comic charms is that that big, belty voice. Nicole Kidman does NOT have that voice, no matter how much anyone wishes she did.
"Do you know ChrisLovesShows?" "Yes. Why, yes he does!"
SHe is a great actress, is beatiful, and has a nice voice. but is not a POWERHOUSE.... you need a powerhouse bombshell... i think nicole is just not a vocal powerhouse...
This thread just amuses me so much because "alterego" was right the whole time and now all these other non-believer posters feel quite dumb and are trying to make up for it by saying "Oh she'll probably drop out of the project anyway." Riiigggghhtt, you keep on telling yourself that.
I think it's pretty neat to have inside information from time to time leaked on this message board because some of it might just turn out true before the press gets their hands on it.

I'd like to see Nicole as Ulla ( who knows, she might give us a different take on the role that could be equally hilarious)... Then maybe, with her star power, other stage musicals would have better chances of becoming movies.
Nicole can and will do it. So far she is the only real big "movie" star in it. I think they will be looking for others to fill some of the lesser roles, even as cameo's. Much as we love them, the Broadway principals (no not Nathan and Mathew) aren't going fill cinemas the world over. With as much at stake ($$$$) they won't chance the whole project on unknowns. MasterLcz why so bitter?
What about Robin Williams for Carmen? Birdcage reunion!
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
