Hotel Carter

I heard a rumor that the Hotel Carter (on 43rd St.) has been shut down, although I can't finding any confirmation online. Does anyone know if this is true?

One less 5 star NY hotel closes. A sigh of relief is the sound you hear.

It's been closed for at least a year and half. Property was sold and new owner is doing multi-million dollar renovation. At least, that was what I was told when I asked while stage dooring at On The 20th Century.

Really been going downhill since opening night of Bombshell.

Hotel Carter

It should have been condemned 25 years ago- what a hellhole....those poor tourists who stayed there because it was cheap- it was like a combination crack house, mental institution and garbage dump.

Hotel Carter

In the early 1980's, I remember going in there to audition for a showcase of Barry Manilow's musical version of The Drunkard. There was a theatre off the lobby, as I recall. Not in very good shape then and it only got worse through the years.

The Hotel Carter's slogan: "Don't look under the bed!"

Carter is an anagram for Ratrec and rats had recreational use there.

As a former NYC Travel Expert for TripAdvisor I often advised visitors not to stay there, but it was so damn cheap they couldn't resist. Afterwards, they always regretted it.
