I don't know if many people are familiar with this song, but I have a question. 6 or 7 years ago I performed in the memorial service for Tony winner Shepard Coleman and recently came across my sheet music - the song was called "How Do You Say Goodbye?" with lyrics by Frank Reardon and music by Ernest G. Schweikert. I know the team wrote many songs together - some made popular by the likes of Sammy Davis Jr. and Billie Holliday, but I was wondering if anyone on here knew a more specific origin of the song. Is it originally from a musical, or was it just a song written for a performer? Thanks in advance.

It's from a musical called RUMPLE. Here's what Gerard Bordman (AMERICAN MUSICAL THEATRE) has to say about it:
"A carefree lark called RUMPLE (11-6-57, Alvin) had a novel plot. Unless cartoonist Nelson Crandal can recapture some of his original inspiration with in 48 hours, his comic strip RUMPLE will be discontinued and his beloved little figure consigned to Oblivia, a sort of Valhalla for cartoon figures. At one point Rumple is allowed to visit Oblivia and consort briefly in a comic ballet with The Yellow Kid and other old timers. The whole show had a happy, old-time flavor to it, including Ernest G. Schweikert's soft-shoe numbers, such as "In Times Like These." It also had Eddie Foy, Jr. in the title role and Stephen Douglass as Crandal. But its writers were all inexperienced and producers Paula Stone and Mike Sloan, who had worked with Foy on their successful revival of THE RED MILL, couldn't assemble everything with the necessary style. RUMPLE headed for Oblivia after 45 showings."

My late Grandfather, Ernest G. Schweikert wrote this song with Frank Reardon. They wrote it for a Broadway show called Rumple that was on Broadway in 1957. Two of the main characters were engaged and when they are having problems, one of them is sitting on a park bench at night and she sings this song. Im so honored that you chose to sing it for something so dear to you.
