There is also a lot of construction on the adjacent streets...the new New York Times Building etc. I think its safe to say that for a tourist, the perimeters of Times Square are definitely stretching.
Yeah, I remeber when i was in NYC, i really wanted a picture of the RENT marquee. It was kind of hard to find, considering i'm not from NYC. I mean I made it, but it was still hard. RENT is just one of those shows that I can't imagine ever closing, kind of like Phantom. Ever since I can remember, RENT has been on Broadway.
Am I the only one who misses those days of the seedy Times Square?
"For me, THEATRE is an anticipation, an artistic rush, an emotional banquet, a jubilant appreciation, and an exit hopeful of clearer thought and better worlds."

I have to admit that I do miss the seedy 42nd street a little, but on the other hand, I'm really happy with what the cleaned up area has done to the industry and the New Amsterdam is so freakin gorgeous, so I'll deal. I just wish it didn't become so tacky tourist strip. I wish they were able to renew 42nd street with more of a nod toward Old New York elegance and glamour instead of visual noise. But maybe that's just me.
Alot of the actual store fronts along 42nd Street are for lease. It's obviously hard to find stores that can afford that premium RENT. I'm kind of surprised more clothing stores haven't made a go of it. A flagship store of something like OLD NAVY would probably do really well. Of course, that's not really old school New York elegance, but then neither is Applebees...
