How did "All Shook Up" fail?

I saw the tryout in Chicago. Great idea, great music and arrangements, great cast, but the book spun out of control and the staging was wildly uneven. The clever, but way too slow staging and rendition of Roustabout was a near miss. The traveling art museum? In a trailer?? Really?!?! Devil in Disguise fell absolutely flat. But the flying Hell's Angels were what really drove the nail in the coffin for me.
Now or Never and Can't Help Falling in Love were the major highlights.

I think the initial marketing is the reason the show failed. I don't think that marketing it as "The Elvis Musical" helped it snag the fanbase they were hoping for. Couple that with how enormous the Palace is and of course the show would fail. I saw the show twice for free because they papered every weekday performance.
It was such a shame too. I found the show utterly charming. For the life of me I will never understand why the producers never took a stab at mounting the show in Las Vegas. I think it could have done well there.
