This girl is insane. The "Worst Broadway Musicals She Has Ever Seen" List ( http://www.rationalmagic.com/Bursting/WorstMusicalsSeen.html ) includes:
Les Mis, Rent, Phantom, Miss Saigon, Grease, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat*
WTF???
For huge laughs, browse the rest of her site where she continues to share her incredibly wrong opinion about all her favorite and least favorite musicals
*also on the list is The Civil War which I've never heard of, so...I won't pass judgement. But based on the rest of the list, it has to be at the least a decent musical that's fun to watch
Hilda, Hilda, wake up! I've invented a maneuver.
i hate to play devil's advocate - and i'm not saying i agree with her because i totally don't but
"each to his own said the old woman as she kissed her pig"
let's not start another battle of the fingers
I think someones been starting the car w/ the garage door closed again! I have no idea what she was thinking!
I understand that adamized, and I understand that there are flaws with all of these shows. But for her to HATE every single one of those shows...and make a point of calling them the WORST Musicals she's ever seen... it just seems off to me.
Hilda, Hilda, wake up! I've invented a maneuver.
She says that her favorite musical is SWEENEY TODD.
Pretty damn good taste.
FOLLIES and COMPANY are also in her top ten.
Her words~
"This show is so overwhelmingly brilliant that it's hard to imagine that the various individuals involved weren't dancing around with excitement every time they rehearsed a line--and for all I know, they did. Like all Sondheim shows, it requires careful and repeated listening in order to fully appreciate just how deep and layered it is in lyric, music, book, and performance. All the performances are magnificent, particularly the leads; it helps to turn up the treble on your stereo and listen closely to catch all the subtleties of Len Cariou's tortured Sweeney Todd"
I like her.
puff honey, check out the civil war...it is some of wildhorn's best music. I love it! as for this chick, she's simply batty.
Not bad taste, different taste.
and I like her too.

the recording of a show and the actual show are two very different things...The Civil War was not a good musical. They tried very hard to string together some very beautiful (but highly inappropriate songs) with an attempt at a plot (or 6).
And as for the rest of her opinions, they are all very valid ones...some may not be the same as yours, but that's why they call them opinions and not facts.
I have to agree with Grease being number one on her list (for different reasons of course, but nonetheless)...
that's funny dawg, when I saw TCW I thought it was very thoughtfully and cleverly plotted and put together. eh well. Linda Eder, in my opinion, isn't the highlight of the recording though..I do love Michael English and Michel Bell.
I agree with a lot of with this girl says, just not to the extemes she goes to. For example, I wouldn't go as far as to say that the Civil War was one of the worst shows I've ever seen, but it certainly wasn't fabulous.
Still, putting Les Miz on "Worst Musicals" list is just wrong.

Actually, her opinion on Rent sounds exactly like mine.
And PerhapsACreamPuff, I think it's in bad taste to start a thread just to bash a person. Especially when that person isn't even professionally involved in theater.
ETA: Her opinion on Phantom is the same as mine, too, down to the crappy seats. I'm not even done reading...

Hahha well i agree that we shouldnt jus put stuff up to talk bad bout them cuz everyone is entitled ot their opinion..but i have to say..I have no idea what she was thinking when she said Les Mis was one of her worst.. hahaha
This girl's choices for worst shows are right on in my opinion. There is something to be said for someone who realizes how much crap has been out there (like civil war and Lloyd Webber). And recognize the briliance of Sondheim in an age when most young people have forgotten how good Follies and Company are. But thats just me and I felt Rent was Cats with Aids(stolen I know but oh so funny)

How exactly is it more acceptable to bash a professional than some girl with a stick up her ass who thinks she's the best thing to happen to music theatre criticism?
Hilda, Hilda, wake up! I've invented a maneuver.
I'm not gay, but is anyone a little offended by her calling RENT a gay musical like I am?
I think she makes valid criticisms, although I may disagree with some of her opinions, it doesn't degrade her's.

Someone needs to knock her over the head and explain to her that all musicals are gay, and she should get over it.
And yeah, this girl seems like a prissy nutbag.

YEA for Company! It's my favorite Sondheim! I love the Civil War's music but the book is well, awful. It's a beautiful show to listen to but watching it was, for lack of a better word, boring. I just think some people over analyze shows, this girl is just so picky I don't see how she can enjoy any show. No show is flawless, and everything has it's problems. Accept it for what it is. I'm not saying that you have to like everything at all. I feel as a performer you have to respect other people's hard work. I was always taught positive critique and constructive criticism.
Her review of JOSEPH is almost identical to the one I posted here last week.

At least she gives reasons beyond "this sucks."

It's nice to see a young woman who doesn't think every musical is "OMG. The best one ever!" But in what universe is Martin Guerre the same story as Miss Saigon?
While I agree with her on some points, and commend her articularity, there is one thing I simply do not, cannot and will not abide by:
"'Memory' is really a nice song, though it has no Broadway sensibility whatsoever--it's just a pop song."
...bibble...WHAT?!
