How is "Music Store" different than most musical works?

Firstly, Music Store features an integrated cast: Blacks, Caucasians, one Asian character, and one Latino.

Many musicals are fantasy stories with songs introduced by sketches or vignettes. Music Store is an inspirational play, an actual play which explores an important issue: "When we give up on our dreams, a piece of us dies inside." Our vitality for the adventure in life fades. Music Store faces this issue head on in funny and poignant ways. Music Store is also a tribute to our Black jazz greats, such as Dizzy Gillespie and Lionel Hampton.

Aditionally, in many musicals, the orchestra is limited to being a backup for the singing. In Music Store, the music arrangements for the 4 piece band are sophisticated and fully integrated with the singing, providing a more powerful music experience for the audience. For example, the syhthesizer/keyboard player, plays strings for several songs, jazz organ for others, tines piano, and other instruments. The base guitar rhythms are uniquely additive, taking full advantage of the instrument; for example: "walking the base," or playing a counterpoint base melody, or double base strings. The drums are meticulously written to play hip, modern beats including double kicks, upbeats, and percussion. It all comes together like a concert, enhancing the overall entertainment experience. An audio CD is available for listening to the music.

The singing in Music Store features a lot of double and triple part harmonies with full cast songs, dance numbers, a duet, R&B and Blues numbers: 9 original songs composed and arranged by Danny D'Agostino and two Blues songs by Muddy Waters and Johnny Lee Hooker.
