That's very interesting, Dee. My feelings about RENT are (to shamelessly quote Dorothy Parker) "Deep down, it's shallow."

See that's sort of on the basis of what I used to see before the intensity of it hit. Maybe one day you'll see it too but then again maybe not. RENT isn't for everyone.
What some people see as intensity, others find dishonesty.
Some see it as galvanizingly real, while others find its pieties fraudulent.

Jon, No, I don't think so. I did question your taste, however. LOL. Check your PMs.

My tastes can run the gambit from a to z. I feel like I should and do not have to pigeon hole my likes and dislikes of the world of performing art. Just becuase I thought SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER was a hoot does not mean I was not absolutely moved by the stark and powerful THE GRAPES OF WRATH. I am allowed to enjoy all kinds of theater am I not? I hope that just because one does not like my choices they do not like the person.

Agreed. To each his own. People musn't put down others' opinions nor should they judge others based upon their opinions.
i definately agree that Rent will pick up during the holiday season...so will 42nd Street...tourists will definately be wanting to see them. i also agree that tourists and rentheads are what's probably keeping Rent afloat. since a lot of rent's biggest fans are in their teens, winter break from school will probably add to ticket sales.
i used to *love* rent, i mean i guess i always will love the music but the last time i saw it was about about 2 years ago (free tickets) and to be honest, i don't think i could sit through it again. i went with one of those people who will probably keep the show going because she could see it a million times and never get sick of it. but that last time, i wasn't so into it. i think that last time was the 6th or 7th time...and i've seen shows multiple times and they can still hold my attention.....Millie 12 times....L5Y 10 times (and i would have seen it another 10 if it didn't close) so i don't know what happened with Rent....maybe i outgrew it?

Well the cast 2 years ago wasn't that wonderful. If i'm not mistaken that's when Trey Ellett was Mark and Manley Pope was Roger.. neither of which were very up to par. In RENT the cast makes a huge difference. With a bad cast the show is nothing but with the right mix of raw talent, training, and edge the show lights up.

Well it lasted until 08 and is getting a revival. It's interesting to read these old threads.
