Honestly, I don't know, but I had to go there.
In "reality" I would place her in her mid to late 20s. Think of the time period, and her relationship with her younger sister (who's probably 22-ish). She's still young and eager enough to be giving it a shot in the big city, but she's not fresh out of high school either.

I like the between 40 & death answer since the first time I saw it done Lauren Bacall was Ruth and that would have been a fair comment, LOL!

Ah, that's why I was wondering. I see Ruth being much younger, but if you get the chance to use Donna Murphy; then naturally you're going to bump up the age to make it fit around her.
