Shills typically only post about one show - and they do so incessantly. If you have opinions good or bad about a whole range of shows, then generally few will suspect that you're a shill (so if you are a shill: Hint -- post about something OTHER than "Brooklyn" and perhaps the folks on the board won't suspect your true intentions

Matt these things happen because posters on this board are intolerant of other posters' preferences and I think sometimes forget what it was like to be young, excited about theatre and elated after just seeing your first big broadway show.
That's my diagnosis.

Posted: 9/8/04 at 8:36pmTrue. But there ARE shills for shows who show up on these boards all the time. They register, start three or four threads about one show and then disappear within a day never to be seen again. Happens all the time.

Posted: 9/8/04 at 8:37pmIt's suspicious when people suddenly start raving about a show just before it starts previews. So timing matters.

Posted: 9/8/04 at 8:39pmAlso, making 3 or 4 threads about something that you can make work in one thread is also a thing that annoys people.......also, do a search of a topic before you start one because if there has been multiple ones about that subject, you are going to get yelled at.

Good....that is all we ask (and more) LOL

Posted: 9/8/04 at 8:43pmAll Im sayin is if you dont like the title of the thread or the show contained in the title of the thread, u aren't required to read it. Most of the time the posters who keep Wicked and Brooklyn threads bumped to the top of the list are NOT the one's professing their love for those shows

Posted: 9/8/04 at 8:48pmIt's not really WICKED that makes people go wacko, it's people that make useless threads about Idina's hair or whatever or starting a WICKED topic that has been discussed BILLIONS of time. And the reason BROOKLYN threads have gotten crap is because people started making fun of RENT and that is a big no no (especially for me)

Well, Wicked is the number one hit on Broadway, sold out week after week, grossing well over $1 million weekly, but that has nothing to do with shills -- they have a great marketing campaign and word of mouth has been very strong.
Brooklyn doesn't even start previews for another couple of weeks and I haven't seen any figures on advance sales for it, so it's unclear how well the box office is doing.

Posted: 9/8/04 at 8:50pmI get it. I downloaded the Bare music and it is very good. No I am not a SHILL. Is the recording out yet?
#19re: How to compliment a show without being called a SHILL?
Posted: 9/8/04 at 8:51pmNope. It is supposed to come out around the time it opens off broadway in October or a little after. Aspiring and a few other people are better to ask. Go to the thread that says BARE CAST and ask them there.

Posted: 9/8/04 at 8:53pmSheesh...this is rediculous! I'm with Matt C...I don't know how much I can rave about a show that I'm truly passionate about now. I've posted several messages about Brooklyn because I saw it several times last summer and it completely captivated me. I haven't posted much about the show lately because someone PMed me and called me a shill. I didn't even know what a shill was until someone explained it on one of the threads. So, just let me know how much I can talk about Brooklyn and I won't do more than that so that I'm not looked down upon for being interested and excited about a fun, creative, thought-provoking piece of musical theater.

Posted: 9/8/04 at 8:53pmI am not sure about the advance for "Brooklyn", but the fact that it has been on TDF for a few weeks certainly is not a good sign.

Posted: 9/8/04 at 8:55pmgood for you for speaking out! Is Brooklyn open yet? What is the deal with it?
#23re: How to compliment a show without being called a SHILL?
Posted: 9/8/04 at 8:55pmLike I said above, it is not BROOKLYN that people get moody about. There were like three BROOKLYN threads that trashed RENT and as stated above, that is a no no. I could care less if you talk about BROOKLYN just make sure there aren't 100 threads about the same subject you are about to write about.
