I wouldn't think Hugh would be a good choice (even though he didn't get the part) b/c he's too bulky. His figure wouldn't fit well in the Phantom's role. But I think his voice would've been good...BETTER than Gerry's singing. I think Gerry should have been dubbed. (Hugh should've done the singing and Gerry will just do the acting)
Antonio Banderas: He would look good in the Phantom's role...The singing, however, needs to go. I agree, when I first heard Evita I could NOT understand a word he sung!
GERARD, NO MATTER HOW MUCH I HATE HIS SINGING VOICE, IS HOT
OH my I think Hugh would have been great...before I saw Oklahoma I kinda thought he was a guy who could sing good...but I was blown away by Oklahoma..he has a great range and is an AMAZING actor...he would have done a great job.
plus he's not hard to look at.

If you go to Yahoo movies, they have the whole history of who was considered for the role. Banderas and Jackman were right up there. But they thought Banderas was too old...
Here let me get the site.

It goes through the whole history. I was suprised and quite thrilled when Alan Cumming was considered for either Andre or Firmin. But then my hopes were shot down.
I think Hugh would have been great, imo.
I think that Hugh would have made a great Phantom. I think his voice suits the role... especially in comparison to Gerard Butler. I really like his voice, and he sang a tiny bit of the POTO during a SNL skit. Maybe I'm also biased, but I think that POTO would have also done better if Hugh was in it.
