Jackman planning return to stage
NEW YORK, May 18 (UPI) -- Tony Award-winner Hugh Jackman says he may return to the theater with a new version of "Pal Joey" or a stage adaptation of the film, "Leap of Faith."
Jackman won a Tony in 2004 for his performance in "The Boy From Oz."
In New York recently to promote his new movie, "X-Men: The Last Stand," Jackman told UPI he is looking at two musicals and a play for his next stage appearance.
"I'm doing a workshop of an original piece, based on the (1992 Steve Martin) movie 'Leap of Faith,' with Alan Menken writing it and Taylor Hackford directing it," he said. "It really fits into a musical, trust me. It's all about performances."
He said he is also considering a revival of the musical, "Pal Joey," with a new book, and a play he did not identify.
Although he can't wait to get back, Jackman said doing a Broadway show eight times a week is tougher than playing Wolverine in the "X-Men" movies.
"I probably would defy Lance Armstrong to say that what he did was tougher, physically," he said with a laugh. "I'm being facetious, of course, but I think that nothing will ever be as physically tough as that."

It definitely won't be this fall - he's doing his Australian BFO arena tour in August and September and another movie in October, plus he's filming "Wolverine" plus probably a few other movies next year.

When the news of the choice between PAL JOEY and STOP THE WORLD..., someone posted here that he was going to be doing LEAP OF FAITH. I wonder if that poster knows any further update on the project?
Hugh has been in a previous Mencken musical, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.
I think the real issue is when he will have the time to commit to Broadway, given that so many movie projects seem to be attached to his name at this point. He has even mentioned in an Australian interview that Steven Spielberg has promised him a project...Plus he still has the movie-musicals deal with Disney.
