I love the man and his amazing talents...I'd really like to meet him before he leaves Phantom. I know he comes out the stage door, but I missed him last time. Any tips on what performance to go to or where to go to meet him? It would be very much appreciated!

The stage door of the Majestic Theatre is on 45th St. behind
the theatre.
It's back along this alley shared by the Majestic, Golden,
and Jacobs (formerly Royale) theatre.
It's kinda yucky place to wait because that alley also
has trash dumpsters for the restaurant next door.
Anyway, if Hugh comes out the stage door, that's where to meet him.
isn't it the same stage door that avenue q uses?
Thanks! I know where the stage door is, yeah (and yes, it was a little gross), I was wondering if anyone knew when he comes out more often. I was at a Saturday night show, and I waited forty-five minutes for him :/. Thanks again!
I don't think he comes out after matniees- so your best bet is a night show.
One of the many times I've seen Q we ran into Hugh at the stage door. We were waiting for John Tartaglia, and he was the last to come out, I think, and Hugh came out before him. I guess you just have to wait...we waited awhile, and the Phantom crowd died down after a bit, but if you stay, he was really nice. We talked to him.

He wasn't there the day I went to see Phantom either... I was really disappointed because I wanted to meet him! I guess, your best bet would be to go his last day as the Phantom? We waited, but everyone told us he left already by another door... I guess, right to him?
In the words of Officers Lockstock and Barrel:

You're best chance of catching him is an hour before the matinees...when he reports to work.
He's absolutely lovely to meet,though...if you are able to catch him.
My friends and I talked to him briefly before the show today...but he was running late. Poor guy...he'd just gotten hit with a car...not seriously, though...it only bumped him and he did the show...best performance I've seen yet...despite a lot of problems with the boat and other mishaps during the show.

The funny thing is you probably had him walk right by you. They have mr Panaro padded out in his outfit so you probably didn't recognize him. I did that the first time I saw him in the show and waited outside. PS he usually likes to wear a baseball hat.
True, JohnnyJune...I probably would not have recognized him the first time if he hadn't walked up to us and ask if we were waiting for someone. And I had a vague idea what he looked like, at least, from some avs at PFN.

When I saw the show in 1998 I went to the stage door and waited for Thomas James O'Leary. It was actually 1999 and an evening shew. I thought i would catch him but he could have walked right past me with out my notice.
I would LOVE to meet Hugh. He seems like a great guy. And I would also like to see the show again! I went backsteage and had ALOT of fun.
What was wrong with the boat? Was it not on the track correctly?
Well, I saw the Pillowman on Wed night, and realized it was right where the Phantom stage door was and I too never got to meet Hugh. We got there at about 11, and he came out and talked to us for a bit and was very nice and gracious. I mean, it takes a little while for him to get the make-up off and you gotta be able to recognize him, but it was great.
bwayfan4ever - Hugh said that the person controlling it remotely was new. So it made a sort of tight turn as it emerged and plowed into the candlestand. After, once he had Rebecca were out of it for the cadenza, it almost plowed into him. And then the pole swung loose...I think that it him and it did catch in his cape. But he never broke character for a second...and there were at least a half dozen problems in all.
I haven't been able to check up on this as of late - thanks for all of the great advice! I may be seeing the show again next Friday night, so...we'll see, I guess. I hope he comes out. *bounces*
i love hugh panaro. i've seen him as the phantom three times, but i've never met him! i'd love to. I also can't wait for Lestat...that's very exciting. Hugh is SO good.
I miss Hugh in "Phantom" already. Why didn't they record a cast album with HIM!!!
Well, we'll probably be getting a "Lestat" cast album. But I've been completely spoiled by seeing him in Phantom and then chatting with him at the stage door before or after the show...so I've been totally spoiled and miss him already, too.
so isn't tonight Hughs last perf.? Well the show isn't over yet... but for those who went and will read this later- How was the show? How was Hugh???
Hugh's last show was several days ago.

ahhh are u serious? I read somewhere else that it was last night.
Yes...it was definately October 1...it was a wonderful show and a great farewell speech from Sandra Joseph.
No, I am making it up, and all those posts on PFN are part of an elaborate ruse.
I saw his last matinee.
I miss him so much (especially since I waited before AND after for a couple hours each time). I left him a gift, I hope he likes it.
Lestat is too far away.
I was at the matinee, too.
He didn't come out until very late after the night show and the little party the cast threw him.
He asked me to post a thank-you for him (at my site) for all the gifts and said he'd probably get around to looking at everything "in a week" or so.
