Why in the world Jackman do a Vegas show at this point in his career? It's one thing for him to lower his profile temporarily and do a Broadway show- Broadway has prestige. But Las Vegas? Please.
And scheduling-wise, he's all tied up in the time period immediately following BFO, with a singing commitment and a movie to film. So no go.
What a weird rumor.

Well that sentence certainly says it all: "But the enormous success of 'Mamma Mia!' has shown that Broadway shows can have a substantive presence there."

Okay, the Avenue Q part of the rumor has been confirmed in the New York Times.

I wonder if Hugh is seriously thinking of a musical career as well. He is supposed to be working on a solo album, too - which he has confirmed to fans at the stagedoor. The album is actually mentioned on the list at Talkin' Broadway among the albums for future release, date unspecified. Maybe he will do the concert to promote the album ?
There are so many rumours of projects tied up with Hugh's name ( including the filming of Sunset Boulevard - he has mentioned in an interview that he has had some discussions with Andrew Lloyd Webber) - it will be a wonder if he can find the time for all these diverse activities ( movies, theatre, recording/concerts, and even script-writing as he was also supposed to be working on a film script on the life of Bill Bixby in the past).

Wynn did not get to be a multi-jillionaire by NOT taking chances. I remember some years ago when people in the art world turned up their noses at the thought of him opening his Bellagio art gallery for his impressionist painting collection. "Is he nuts?! It's SO not Vegas!" was the general response. Last I heard, there were still crowds of people that lined up to enjoy Renoir, Monet, Degas and Manet (at $20 a head - I think...maybe the sum was more) at Bellagio. Wynn has to know what would go over in Vegas and what would not. Clever move.
AVENUE Q in Vegas? Why not? It will be unlike most any other show there (which could be cleverly marketed to be an anvantage). It will be in aa theater perfectly scaled to its intimate charms. And by making it an exclusive Broadway-Las Vegas show it makes it more "SPECIAL" - the show you CAN'T see anywhere else!

Posted: 6/10/04 at 9:12amI can't say I'm crazy about the idea of Hugh making a solo album - he doesn't seem to have a "recording" voice...just from what I've seen of him on the Tonys and other clips on TV, it seems he sings in a very nasal fashion...not something I could listen to for an hour on the stereo...

redhot, Hugh does not normally sing in a nasal
fashion. He is singing nasally now because he is
playing Peter Allen who was a nasally singer.
Listen to his work in "Oklahoma!" to get a better
idea of how well he can really sing.

Posted: 6/10/04 at 12:20pmThough I do think the quality of his voice in the Boy From Oz can be attributed partly to the fact that he's playing Peter Allen, his voice definitely has had a 'nasal' quality in past recordings.
