Ok Folks, I Humpers would like to trot on over to the Dodgers stages. But first this loving Camel has a question.

I am very excited to see the show but I am a tad scared of the Altarholics, will they run this wee camel out of the theater for not being one fo them or will they judge me for having 4 legs?? Please let me know what you all think about this matter.

Love Always,
Humpers The Camel

Camels are safe at Altar Boyz, from what I hear. Any creatures in The Bible are okay by them.

Most of us are okay, and will not attack, or judge, anyone (regardless of species) unless provoked. Hope you have a good time, if you do wind up seeing it. re: Humpers the Camel wants to Visit the Altar Boyz

But if Humpers doesn't like the show, would that be considered "provoking" the Altarholics? I felt like some of y'all thought I needed to be psychoanalyzed because I wasn't totally enamored with the show - and I didn't even hate it.

Eh, depends. Personalities vary. Some of us would just say "all right, then" and move on, and others will stand and argue with an opinion (I'm sure I've probably done both, at one point or another).

Emcee, I remember that whole fiasco, and would like to apologize if you feel I was one of the people who felt you needed to be psychoanalyzed (although I really don't think any of us did... we just get sort of defensive, sometimes). I don't think I've ever seen anyone verbally attack (or attack in any way, for that matter) someone else for disliking (or not being enamoured with) the show, but I could understand why it might come off that way. As I said: we do get defensive sometimes, and will attempt to disqualify someone's opinion (which we shouldn't, but think about what your reaction would be in that situation, if the show was Sweeney Todd, or something) but I don't think we would ever consider anyone to be less of a person because they didn't like the show. I certainly wouldn't, and I would hope that nobody else would, either.

However, if Humpers (or anyone else) expressed a negative opinion about the show in a manner that was overly rude and/or offensive, it's another matter entirely. re: Humpers the Camel wants to Visit the Altar Boyz

Jeez, I never realized what a bad reputation we've made for ourselves...

I don't even remember who it was; I just remember this overwhelming response of "oh my gosh, those two must be insane" because Munkustrap and I didn't fall in love with the show. I mean, I understand that you guys like it, but I can't understand what the point is in feeling the need to convert people, or whatever. It's fine to try and figure out WHY people don't like it, but I just felt like I was pounced on in a "geez, well what's wrong with YOU?!" sort of way. I don't think I'd say I was attacked, really, but it just seemed like whoever was posting that night felt like she needed to dig through my brain and my opinion and try to figure out the reasons I didn't like the show therefore figuring out how she might back up those things and change my opinion. And I think what people need to understand about Altar Boyz is that because it's not at all a traditional sort of musical, it's just not everbody's cup of tea - and it's not really fair to go all nuts if someone doesn't love it, because it DOES give the fanbase a bad reputation for being a tad bit obnoxious. (And unfortunately, a lot of the ABz fanbase DOES have a pretty tough reputation.) I have a friend who is a bit of a newcomer to the Altarholics thing, but she is friendly with several of you - and I love her dearly. Everybody deals with this stuff in a different way, I guess - it's sort of like the way I was grappling with having to handle true RENTheads yesterday - kids who have totally lost their marbles. *shrug* I don't think I really had a point.

Emcee, if anyone gave you the feeling that it was wrong or bad not to like the show, I apologize to you for their behavior. Some people don't understand things like that, why someone would dislike a show they think so highly of.

The Altarholics can be very accepting, like when I went, a couple of Altarholics went too, and although I was with my family, they all made it a point to smile at me, and a couple took my picture with the boyz for me.

Humpers, I think you should go and form your own opinion, of the show and of the Altarholics.

But again, I apologize to you Emcee for the way the other Altarholics acted. Some people just don't know that not everyone will agree with them about a show they really like.

No, you make a very good point- whether you were intending to or not. It's unfair that fans of any show should "pounce" on other people for not liking it, and I feel horrible that we've (apparently) been doing that. Again: I don't think anyone was intending to, but I guess we did. I'd apologize on behalf on the fandom, but it's hardly my place to do that.

I don't think wanting to know why someone dislikes a show you love is out of line, but the way we went about it definitely was, if it was that annoying. If any part of that was because of me: I'm incredibly sorry. I can see why we would want to do that (go through every reason someone doesn't like the show, and try to make those reasons less valid), but we should resist the temptation to do so, if it's really that obnoxious (which I don't think any of us- myself included- fully realized).

As for wanting people to love the show as much as we do... well, I'd be lying if I said it didn't make a difference to me. Yes- I am disappointed when people don't enjoy it, as I'm disappointed when people don't enjoy other shows that I love. However, if someone doesn't like it, they don't like it. Different strokes for different folks. It doesn't mean they need to have their head examined, and I don't think any of us really believe it does, but if we've been behaving as if we do, we need to watch it. I'm actually happy you've pointed all of this out- we needed to hear it. re: Humpers the Camel wants to Visit the Altar Boyz

(pst, almostxfamous, I think I saw the show before you even joined the board, from looking at your date of registration, so it wasn't you!)

And like I said, I've met a bunch of the so-named Altarholics, and I'm not saying that all of you are insane, or anything (though every show has its fans who lack sanity), but it's just strange to me - this sort of elitism that's developed - that like, when somebody goes to see the show, it's like "oh, watch our for those Altarholics!" and the way y'all are thought of as some sort of prowling unit. It's a tad unnerving, sometimes. I don't want to sound like I'm condescending, or something - I like you guys, and I don't know you personally, really, but as a group, it can be a bitch much. I don't know that the group is so aware of the reputation it's gotten.

(And Elizabeth, I don't think it was ever done on purpose. Whoever it was was just trying to defend the show, and profess her love for it. Is just came across as being very, very strong.)

No worries!

Funny you should point out that "elitist" feeling, Emcee. There are definitely fans who seem to have an unrealistic perception of their role with the show, and it's gone noticed even by other fans. I'd hate for this to become like the Wicked fandom, with all of us being made out to be crazy teeny-boppers. Most of us are actually (somewhat) rational, thinking human beings. Yep, I've definitely heard about the... within-the-group rivalries. re: Humpers the Camel wants to Visit the Altar Boyz Some of you are definitely rational; and I think it's different than Wicked fandom - the Boyz are far from that completely untouchable status for you guys, like the Wicked stars were for the teenyboppers. With a smaller fanbase, they're a lot more accessible... which I guess could be dangerous for the girls with big heads.

I completely understand what you're saying, Emcee. There definetely are problems amongst the Altarholics, and maybe it's easier for a bit of a non-holic to see.

I hope you at least think me and Elizabeth are normal, right? RIGHT?!(jk jk)

I don't want the Holz to continue on with a bad rep, to me, they're harmless. Just use your own opinion of the show, that's what I think.

Is Humpers The Camel related to Wax Lion?

Well, yeah. And it seems like because the cast is so accessible to you guys, and willing to form those sorts of relationships with their fans, it's going to be that fingernail-scratching, hair-pulling, back-stabbing sort of fight for who can be the closest to them - at least amongst certain members of the group.

I watch from the outside. re: Humpers the Camel wants to Visit the Altar Boyz

Yeah, Wax Lion and Humpers both do that creepy "Bob Dole" thing of referring to themselves by name ("Bob Dole would like another cup of coffee. Bob Dole liked the Pie very much!") but they are different species and Humpers seems to be ceramic while WL was of course, Wax.

So what gives? I haven't seen the Wax Lion for a while, but Humpers joined when I saw WL all the time...my head hurts.

Sorry: JoeKv99's head hurts. JoeKv99 is going to take an aspirin and a glass of wine and go to bed early.

Humpers is actually plastic, not ceramic. If I Humpers were ceramic I would be missing body parts from falling over so much (back in my drinking days).

Bob Dole stole his whole act from me, I find it quite upsetting.

Also Humpers has not yet met Mr. Wax Lion. But I do adore all species.

This is turning into to a very informative thread about how the Altarholics are seen by outsiders and by their own memebers Humpers thanks you all for your insight.

Love Always,
Humpers The Camel

I'm thinking of changing my BWW screen name to an inanimate object or a character name like say, "Coco The Clown". What do you all think?
