I Am Harvey Milk - Andrew Lippa and Laura Benanti

With all the various threads on Big Fish and Andrew Lippa lately I downloaded his show I AM HARVEY MILK from iTunes and have to say I can't stop listening to it. It's really stunning (big chorus, amazing orchestrations, sweeping score) and Laura Benanti sounds as good if not better than she did in MOST HAPPY FELLA. Did anyone see this in San Francisco? Curious to hear thoughts.Thanks.

I saw it in San Francisco. I thought it was quite beautiful, but I think I need to give it another listen because a lot of it kind of washed right over me. I never knew Lippa himself was such a good actor and singer before this! he's really quite talented! Between Lippa and Benanti and the very talented Noah Marlowe (and also the Gay Mens Chorus), I think I was more focussed on the performances than the material, which is why I need to give it another listen. From what I do remember though, it was very beautiful and poignant.

Thanks, JBroadway. Wish I had seen it. Yeah, Noah Marlowe is fantastic as a younger version of Lippa. Also very impressed with how good Lippa is as a performer on this but mostly just blown away by the complexity and beauty of this score.
