I missed out on the revival too. But the tour was just as good as I'd imagine the revival to be, and a lot of people from the tour and the Broadway revival were in the show at Ogunquit.

I lovelovelove Les Miz, but I have yet to see a full production of it! I was lucky enough to be working at the Hollywood Bowl last summer and catch that production twice. I nearly cried at the end, it was so wonderful. Now of course one of my main goals when I study abroad in London is to see Les Miz in full! :)

The first time I saw it in LA, I cried like a baby.

Then I saw it in London and it was like a cheesey college production.

And I recently saw a friend play JVJ in Solvang with my old theatre company, PCPA, and loved it's stripped down version.

It's just good eatin'!

question... what did you all think of the new orchestrations from the revival... i was listening to it and i actually quite liked some of the songs new orchestrations... like I Dreamed a Dream and the whole arrest of Fantine sequence... other times like On My Own I wasn't that impressed and the songs felt strange to hear... i didn't see the revival so i can't comment on the entire production so how was it?

I didn't hate all of them, but it made the overture sound wimpy and Lovely Ladies like a carnival ride. Most of the time I didn't think about the orchestrations, but those two still stick in my mind as wince-inducing.

FWIW, though, my parents (who are theatre fans but not hardcore) didn't even notice a difference, and they'd seen Les Miz 5 times since around 1990. I dunno.
