Posted: 8/28/09 at 1:37pmI lovelovelove Les Miz, but I have yet to see a full production of it! I was lucky enough to be working at the Hollywood Bowl last summer and catch that production twice. I nearly cried at the end, it was so wonderful. Now of course one of my main goals when I study abroad in London is to see Les Miz in full! :)

The first time I saw it in LA, I cried like a baby.
Then I saw it in London and it was like a cheesey college production.
And I recently saw a friend play JVJ in Solvang with my old theatre company, PCPA, and loved it's stripped down version.
It's just good eatin'!

Posted: 8/28/09 at 1:48pmquestion... what did you all think of the new orchestrations from the revival... i was listening to it and i actually quite liked some of the songs new orchestrations... like I Dreamed a Dream and the whole arrest of Fantine sequence... other times like On My Own I wasn't that impressed and the songs felt strange to hear... i didn't see the revival so i can't comment on the entire production so how was it?

I didn't hate all of them, but it made the overture sound wimpy and Lovely Ladies like a carnival ride. Most of the time I didn't think about the orchestrations, but those two still stick in my mind as wince-inducing.
FWIW, though, my parents (who are theatre fans but not hardcore) didn't even notice a difference, and they'd seen Les Miz 5 times since around 1990. I dunno.
