Tonight I went to see I Love You Because, and was expecting a nice evening enjoying a typical love story, but it turned out to be better (and certainly more dramatic- read on for details).

The first Act went smoothly, a few details needed adjusting, but overall pretty good. Then the drama started...
During the last number of Act 1, the man sitting in front of me had a seizure (that's what his wife called it, though I guess I don't know). She turned around to me, asking for an EMT. Of course, my dad who was on the isle heard and got up to find someone. The producer came out and stopped the show, while several people called 911. We went right into intermission and the EMTs arrived to help the man. He went to the hospital and will probably be fine, but how scary!
After the intermission, the writer/composer came out and explained what happens during the last minute or so of Act 1, and the show continued.

Once Act 2 got going, the show really took me on an emotional journey. The characters I once found annoying became lovable, and I really began to care about each person's feelings and situation. The music told the story beautifully, and with humor. I found the characters to be very well develped and the storyline interesting. The weak points included only details that could easily be fixed- afterall, it is still previews. With a little tweaking, I can see this show getting a very positive response and having a healthy run. Funny and heartfelt, it was a very enjoyable theatre experiance.

P.S. The entire cast was very talented, without exception. (occasionally Stephanie D'Abruzzo would say a line and I couldn't help but hear a puppet's voice I Love You Because (1/27))

I was there tonight as well. That was really scary. Especially when they stopped the show and the lights went up and then all of a sudden the man's arm shot up real stiff...it was bizarre and scary and I truly hope that he is okay.

All in all a fun show. David Austin is a hoot :)
