Hi, I am hoping to direct a production of 'I Love You Because' next year and I'm looking for some inspiration for set ideas, direction, style of piece etc. Does anyone know if there are any promotional videos or photos available to view? I'm struggling to find resources. Thank you.
Though I am pretty sure the amature rights will not be avail for you, you can try and get ahold of the NY1 video with a few clips of the show... it aired mid feb and should be in their archive somewhere. The set was not traditional by any means, but I can try to explain it. Wouldnt work in most theatres. The stage was a "runway" of sorts, with the audience sitting across from eachother on 2 sides of it. On the other 2 sides were flats painted as NYC in pastel colors (think convorsation hearts). From one side of the stage, a bar came on that served as both the coffee shop (True Brew) and the the bar (O'Dennehey's. sp?). A table center stage/runway was also used for the coffee shop, chinese restaurant and in Austin's Apartment. A bed came in from one side for Marcy's room and a couch and a bed (at different times) came in the other side for Austin/Jeff's place. It was very minimal. Though it's not updated anymore, there is a myspace account for the show, with almost all of the press pictures. Many of the costumes reflect the show in previews and were changed before opening night.
Where are you thinking/wanting to direct this? As far as I know there are still productions planned for Florida (Actor's Theatre?), Boston and a few other places. PM me with any more questions.
I think the rights are indeed available...
