I posted this on the student board and got no replies. Please help- what show is I Wanna Be a Show Stopper song from? I can't find it anywhere- Thanks!
I don't think it's from a show.
It's an old, traditional, standard, "in public domain" song.

When I Googled it, only your two threads came up.
Thanks to both of you for helping. When I googled it before, I only got that awful Danity Kane song. I wish I knew the words. (The music is in my head- it's a kind of song that Liza would sing) I went to a Thespian competition and saw it on the program. It said it was from Follies I believe- but I still didn't find it. Anyone else have an idea? Thanks!
Are you certain you have the correct title?
The title you provided isn't from any Broadway show, let alone FOLLIES.
Could you be thinking of "I'm a broadway Baby" from Follies? Not the title, but the tune IS an incredible showstopper, and Liza HAS sung it...just an idea?!
Honestly- I'm not sure that's the title. I just know that when the music starts to kick up, the singer sings I Wanna be a Show Stopper with the....Don't laugh- but I heard it at a pageant once. There was a former Miss Florida named Melissa Aggeles who sang it. She was an aspiring Broadway performer when she won the title and came back the next year to sing the song. I heard it again recently. It would be a great song for my daughter- I just can't find it. I really appreciate your responses though!
Think I found it...Go to Google. type in quotes ONLY "wanna be a showstopper". There's a link to www.mountaintimes.com. Read the article, it mentions the song.
Retrogirl- you have gone above and beyond to help me find this song. First of all, I know Broadway Baby and you're right, that too is a great song. There's a wonderful video on Youtube of Daisy Egan singing it at the Tony's when she was a girl. The song mentioned in the article is probably the one I need. I just wish it would have said where the song was from. My search continues. Thanks for your time!

We sang this song in a gala event once. I believe it's by Kander & Ebb and it's not actually from a show.
The lyrics were something like:
I wanna be a showstopper with a showstopping song
A showstopper with a showstopping dance
An eyepopper who can break up the joint
You getting my point?
Is that the song you're thinking of?
just trying to hone my search skills, which are not that good.
Maybe you can contact that newspaper..
"horton" also has some good info, i think....
Horton- YESSSS!!! I think that's the song. Liza loved Kander and Ebb- maybe that's why I thought the song was in her style. Thank you! Now I can search under their name and hopefully find it. Thanks to you too Retrogirl. I LOOOOOVE this board!

The Muppets sang that song, too.
NO LIE! It was part of their "Muppet Show Live" tour in the 80s.

Actually, Daisy sang "Broadway Baby" in "Sondheim: A Celebration at Carnegie Hall"
