I first discovered this song when I was in middle school and going through my "awkward stage" (as many other posters on here did as well). It was on one of those "Broadway's Greatest Hits" albums and it was sung by a woman. So my first introduction to the song was with a woman singing and it definitely spoke to me. I've always found it to be an anthem for everyone.

"All our dreams can come true -- if we have the courage to pursue them." -- Walt Disney We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".

Personally, I feel the song has a much broader message than a gay man coming out of a closet. I think it's about being open with yourself. Sure, in the show it's about that, but as a stand alone, I think it's an ever MORE powerful song.

With Clay Aiken in Spamalot, all of Broadway is singing a collective "There! Right! There!" -Me-

"Not Barker, Todd is the only person I've ever known who could imitate Katherine Hepburn...in print." -nmartin-

"There's a black woman inside the soul of every gay man!"
