After much stress and last-minute planning, I'm finally coming to NYC next week -- and I have no idea what to see. I was hoping to catch SPELLING BEE, but it looks like it's sold out.
Any recommendations, off-Broadway and on?
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Brooklyn Boy are my musical and play du jour.

If you haven't seen them already, catch Twelve Angry Men or Democracy.
And yes, I'm still mad about Gem of the Ocean.
As am I, Plum. GEM was first on my list of things to see -- ironic that I only missed it by a week.
I love Joanna Gleason (and Norbert and Sherie too), so I might catch DRS. Why aren't tickets available at TKTS? As a student, I'm looking for cheap!
BlueWizard, tell us what you have already seen. There are some awesome things running, but let us know what you have already seen so we can better recommend something you haven't:)
Yes that's true...that would probably help.
I haven't seen any of the new season, which I'd like to catch. What I've seen are all the long-running shows:
Avenue Q
Hairspray
Beauty and the Beast
Chicago
Lion King
Mamma Mia
Phantom
Producers
Rent
Wicked
I Love you, You're Perfect, Now Change
Naked Boys Singing
Except for DRS and Spelling Bee (both of which seem hard to get tickets for), I'm drawing a blank on what to see.

I guess I'm the only one who really loved Little Women...
I'd recommend it.
Have you ever seen Fiddler on the Roof?
Well...here's some suggestions:
Little Women
Spamalot (gonna be hard to get tickets)
Chicago
La Cage aux Folles
Movin' Out
Twelve Angry Men
Under the Bridge
Fiddler
Forbidden Broadway: SVU
I'm interested in Leveaux's FIDDLER, only because Harvey's in it, and also because it's a divergence from Jerome Robbins' direction. However, I'd prefer to see a new musical.
....Harvey is a draw, though.
Thanks for all the recommendations! Keep 'em coming!
Also, think about Brooklyn :}
Have a great trip!

I would try for DRS or Spamalot.
Well...I would see a new musical over Harvey in Fiddler and I DEFINITELY would dodge BKLYN, and DRS and Spamalot are probably going to be tough to get into.
Are you wanting to get your tickets at TKTS or order ahead of time?
If you don't care about substance, and you just want to have fun, see "Good Vibrations" front row orchestra! $26 student rush. You'll have a good time! :)

Just want to add that La Cage would be a great choice too. It is so visually stunning.

Brooklyn is always at TKTS and it is great!
See GOOD VIBRATIONS. You know you wil anyway. Everyone on this site who ripps one these shows always see them anyway because theyre theatre freaks
hahahaha...I guess that's true.
Go see the off-off broadway show "Sus Manos" at the Emerging Artists Theatre. It's a brilliant play! I did research on it for a class project and can't wait for it to open.
Depending on waht day you are goin next week All Shook Up start previews on the 20th and they have ticktes for $19.95. I know as a student that is an amazing price for me!

I haven't seen it personally, but I've heard that A Number is good. There's also Fat Pig, if you like LaBute.
