I have just listened to The Little Mermaid and Xanadu OCRs. I am seeing both of these shows next month.
Xanadu seems like it will be a lot of fun, although I am not blown away by the recording.
The Little Mermaid - my Lord how long is this show?? The recording seems to go on forever... I am looking forward to this despite the mixed word of mouth as it sounds like typical Disney.

Posted: 4/19/08 at 10:15pmYou must detach yourself from the fact that TLM is a broadway show. If you go in thinking "broadway" you will come out going "wtf? I just wasted 3 hours of my life."

Posted: 4/19/08 at 10:15pmthe Xanadu recording is not the best quality, but the show is GREAT!
"Leave Walt Disney Theatricals new sparkling production of The Little Mermaid on Broadway alone!!!"
lakezurich will be played by Paul Groves in the BWW musical

Posted: 4/19/08 at 10:17pmYes, TLM is more like a theme-park attraction. It's entertaining, but the production itself belongs in Disney World. The actual talent in the show is amazing, though.

My expectations are not high for this show. However after hearing the recording and seeing photos I can't see why this has been received as poorly as it has.
I debated whether I should include it in my schedule but in the end I decided I had to or else I would never know.

Posted: 4/19/08 at 10:23pmnot saying it isn't an enjoyable show. you just can't expect it to be a broadway show. Like Maya said, it looks like it belongs in Disney World. It's definitely worth it, though, to see Sherie Rene Scott sing Poor Unfortunate Souls.=]

lakezurich - I am hoping you are right. From what I have heard and from what I have seen,Xanadu will be a great experience. I don't think the recording does the cast justice though. In some parts Kerry Butler sounds strained and I have heard her sing much better than this.
greybaby231 - I am very much looking for to seeing Sherie. I hope that she is not absent when I go, as she sounds quite fabulous. She still remains faithful in her vocal performance to the film, yet she clearly brings her own sound to the role.

I also got these at the same time. I love them both, Xanadu is better, but TLM has Sherie Rene.
