Posted: 8/13/04 at 8:26pmBut I need your faithful assistance. I'm a fifteen year old Alto with a reasonably well developed voice. My school is holding auditions for Beauty and the Beast and I'm going for Mrs. Potts. What would be a few choice songs? Thanks in advance!

not really that funny.
at all.
hmmmm... if you can do it, maybe "you'll never walk alone" from carousel- if you pull it off, it'll prove that you have a good strong mature voice.

Posted: 8/13/04 at 8:35pmummmm...good alto songs...idk if this would work, its kinda hard and its not really from a stage show but "over the rainbow". If you do it very well you'll blow em away. or you could try something upbeat (i say that cuz i know miss potts has that fun little bouncy section in Be Our Guest lol). My friend who is a good alto singer alwyas uses Adelaide's Lament which is slow in certain parts and fast in others and always gets the part she wants lol. Its from Guys and Dolls.

Cough is what you do when you try to clear your throat and it's spelled "cough." The dictionary would have a better definition.
I've heard of this in school productions and I still think it's hilarious!

When you can provide a legitimate reason as to why it is so "hilarious" bronxboundexpress, then I'll listen to your mindless posts
I second "Feed The Birds," and "Adelaide's Lament" is good, but VERY overused.

Thanks very much you guys. I would still like to keep my options open, but I knew I could come here.
Even if it's not an alto song, that's okay. I just meant that is where I am most comfortable.

Posted: 8/13/04 at 9:01pm"No one is alone" from Into The Woods has a very maternal side to it. Just think of motherly characters and songs they sing, and also think of Potts's voice part. Break a leg!

Posted: 8/13/04 at 9:11pmYou're right, it's probably not. But I never sing because I know how awful I am, so I will never know.

i suggest 'someone to watch over me' by gershwin. its not in any show i know of but its a pretty song, plus its got a decent range though it definately would flatter a lower voice...
whatever song you end up choosing-good luck!

hey sweetie, here are some of my suggestions:
1. By The Sea from Sweeney Todd...it's Sondheim which is sometimes discouraged from use at auditions, but it's peaceful, slow, soothing, and associated with Angela Lansbury (which is helpful and people will notice lol)
2. Dolly's parts in I Put My Hand In from Hello Dolly
3. Some People or Together Wherever we go from Gypsy
4. Meg's part of A Man Doesn't Know from Damn Yankees
Hope Ive helped.

I must admit on a website I saw someone audition for Catherine asking for suggestions and someone said this and I thought, well why not for Ms Potts? So I'm not quite as brilliant as my idea
