My college did this show 2 years ago and I played in the pit orchestra for it. The show got positive feedback, but I agree with Margo; the score is very uneven. There were some very nice songs included, but also several songs that seemed to serve no purpose. The character of Lena (Mama) Younger gets a beautiful song in Act 1 called "A Whole Lotta Sunlight" and a nice eleven o'clock number called "Measure The Valleys". Walter Lee and Ruth also have a nice duet in the first act called "Sweet Time".
Ironicaly, I never got to actually see the show (the only drawback of being in the orchestra), so I don't know how it was staged, but it would be nice to see it at Encores.
