I had actually auditiond for michael Banks on Broadway in MP without represetation from an agent, and of course didn't get picked for the role. However, I am friends with Delaney Moro (one of the Janes who had to leave due to height) & her family, and Jacob Levine (th new Michael Banks) used to go to my community theatre (We were both munchkins for the Wizard of Oz). Also, I am very close with the family of Skylar Astin, from Spring Awakening (He play's Georg). I was in a production of High School Musical with his younger sister playing Sharpay. They're all very nice!

After having gone to a few open calls and learning this the hard way, the best advice I can give is to forget what you've been practicing and rehearsing and be in the moment. Your technique will come through naturally, and if you're focusing on the moment you're freer to enjoy it and really 'act it.'
Break a leg, I'm sending you good vibes!
Be confident and remember the words to your audition song. I have seen people get nervous and forget the words.

If you go up on lyrics, Don't sweat it, It happens, If you're what they want or see the potential, forgetting a word or 2 will not ruin your chances. Be as memorized as possible but I recommend holding the music. You don't neccesarily have to look at it,but keep it handy. That only goes for material they have asked you to learn. Of course you'd be off book for your own audition material. Also bring your book of music, they may want to hear something of your own. Don't be so glued to the way you've prepared your audition, If theyre interested, 9 out of 10 times they will probably give you some direction to try it a different way. It does not mean they think you were bad, but they want to see how open you are to direction and being able to apply the note. Be yourself. and Breathe.

I got the material for the audition. There are 3 songs and 3 scenes. I've memorized the songs and I'm working on memorizing the scenes. Is it ok to hold the copy for the scenes or would it be better to completely learn the stuff so I can actually perform it and be free?
This all feels like such a fairy tale. It's so surreal! But amazing at the same time!
Don't memorize it. They don't expect you to, and it will take focus away from really working on the material. You will probably only have to barely glance at it by that time anyway, don't worry.
Every casting director I know has the same advice - memorize the sides so that you know them cold, and hold the sheets anyway. If you don't hold the sheets, it looks like you're giving a "finished" performance. But if you're buried in the sheets, you can't perform. Weird, but they're more comfortable knowing that if you blank, you can glance at the page and just keep going.
Tehpretty hits it on the head - don't worry about your lyrics, your placement, what they think, how well it's going - let go of everything and just tell the story of the song. Be in the moment. That's the most important thing. If they give you an adjustment, that's great. It doesn't mean you're doing something wrong. It means they see something they like and they want to play a little bit, to see what else they can find out about you.
So, yes. Learn everything so that you know it without thinking, then let go and just Be Tracy. Hold the sheets when you do the sides/songs, but don't look at them if you don't need to.
Break a leg! Remember, everyone in the room is on your side. They want you to be as brilliant as possible so they can get the role cast.

I had the audition today at 11:10am. I believe it went well. It started with me singing "Good Morning Baltimore." The casting agent stopped me after the first verse and said that my voice is perfect for the role, but she sensed I was holding back and I needed to show more bubbly-ness and excitement. So I started again, hopefully adding what she requested (I think I did). Then she stopped me again and asked me to move to the back of the room and "sell" it to the person in the back of the house. This time I started at "I know every step, I know every song..." and I got to sing it to the end and really belt out the modulation. I nailed the vocals. I felt really good about the singing and I tried my best to be a bubbly 16 year old. Oh, I did goof on the lyrics at one point, but just picked up and kept going, never missing a beat. I saw some nods and smiles when this happened.
Then I did one side - the scene with Tracy and Link when Tracy is in jail. There were two guys in the room and I gestured to one of them and said, "Is he my Link?" and the casting agent said, "Couldn't you tell?" and I said, "Well, yeah. He's so dreamy." I hope that wasn't corny but it really just came out.
The scene went well. Again, I flubbed a line a little bit, but kept on going. I made eye contact and stayed in character during the scene. I really had hoped to do the scene where she's in detention, but they didn't ask to see that one.
There were other girls there, and I do have to say that the one thing I noticed was the way they were dressed. They all looked very casual, almost sloppy....whereas I wore a brown a-line skirt, a pink blouse and brown flats. I thought I presented myself as a professional and don't know if that matters at all or not.
So I guess now I have to just wait and see if they call me to come back to the call backs, which I was told when they booked this audition, were going be Tuesday June 12th. Since I have NO experience with how Broadway works, I keep second guessing myself thinking that they would have invited me back right then and there, but I really have NO idea what the process is.
So that's it. I feel great about the singing part of the audition and the acting was so-so. I would love to go in and dance for them because that comes SO naturally to me!
Thanks for the interest!!!

There was one girl who was 16 and then two girls in their early 20's. I'm in my early 30's but look very young.
