Ok, so Im sure this has been discussed but im just joining in on this thing. I went and saw IN MY LIFE last night and I just don't understand. I went in knowing that it had some negative vibes but I swear to you I think it was the worst thing I have ever seen. I just stared at the stage the entire time and saw nothing but money and the fact that someone actually put money into it. The sets were amazing and the costumes were great but it was just SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad. I think everyone in the show had talent with a few exceptions. I wasnt really sure of the point of the chorus or how they were even cast because they do nothing. I was so over the little girl Vera, that everytime she came on stage I thought "Oh no ,not her again". Im sorry, but Im sure she has a a nice voice and she might be able to belt her face off at 12 years old, but she cant act her way out of a paper bag. I will say I enjoyed David Turner. Everytime he came on stage I was thankful because he could make just about anything funny.
Im all for orginal musicals and music. Trust me. I want the Jukebox musicals to fizz out but I believe that GOOD VIBRATIONS and LENNON were stronger than this and that is saying alot.It is clear that there was alot of money put in this thing but I feel that it was put in all the wrong places. If someone is going to spend that kind of money on that kind of garbage that person better better be making pretty hefty donations to some worthwhile organizations that could actually do something useful. Im sorry if people out there love this show and have a cousin or a dog in it, but I am hoping it closes before nov 1
I went last night too and loved it...in a 'Mommie Dearest' 'Cant Stop the Music' kind of way...

I agree with you about David Turner; loaded with talent and capable as hell. Almost vaudevillian in his presence, and he doesn't force anything. Not everyone understands and can play over the top but it comes easily to him. He seems to thoroughly enjoy being onstage, too.

Didn't you enjoy God singing a song about Dr. Pepper?
I'm getting to go to the opening night performance tomorrow! This sounds so bad, and it seems so unbelievable that people actually financed this...SO I can't wait to see it.
I told my friend that's going with me, we should go because it might be the opening and the closing night! And we'll want to see we were there.
People pay lots of money for opening night tickets.
People also pay lots of money for closing night tickets.
You got 2 for the price of one!
Here's the best part, the tickets were free!!
And get this, the service I get the comp tickets through said that almost 300 members got tix for this performance. They literally had to give them away!
Wow. This is going to be so bad. I can't wait!

AGREED!!!!
I felt like they should have paid me to sit there for that long...Worst thing was NO INTERMISSION. You couldn't even escape it if you wanted to.

Hey, but David Turner's performance and the costumes and craziness make this show like the must see of the season...

Not necessarily -- at the preview I attended, a couple sitting a few seats away from me got up and left in the middle. Luckily, they were on the aisle.

I am so glad someone mentioned not liking vera very much. I read a lot of reviews saying 'she was so cute, i loved her, la la la.' I thought she was just a terrible little actress, just terrible. Sure she executed perfect singing technique but musical theater should be theater above all. Did anyone else notice her tongue twitching? The show, oh the show. i sweear to god if i hear 'life turns on a dime' or some reprise of it one more time i will shoot someone. How many times can you pound a simplistic idea into an audiences head? And the aria delivered from teh 50's kitchen, PRICELESS! As for the cast i give them a lot of credit for throwing themselves up there and really giving it their all in such mediocrity. I am so excited to read teh reviews...

And as for the little girl, Vera, when she does her ballerina number I think we all should bring the inspiration of little ballerina dolls and hold them up over our heads for the dance...

"They left as though there were an intermission?"
I think it would be more accurate to say they left as though they just couldn't take it any more.
They missed J.T. being lifted out of his bed on wires and hanging there, mid-way between the stage and the top of the proscenium, in a hospital gown and white sweat socks. Kind of like Peter Pan in intensive care. (Yes, I saw it before they took that part out.)

As if I wasn't already intrigued, Jimmcf's Mommie Dearest/Can't Stop the Music comparison sealed the deal :)

I just got home from Opening Night a little while ago. it was so...there really aren't any words. I was so puzzled the whole time. I thought how did all of these people actually go through with this. No one mentioned that this was an amalgamation of ideas that make no sense, are tacky, sound like TV commercials. WOW. I'm glad I was there though.
Very funny review. Thanks for the warning. I'll save my money. Don't go see THE ODD COUPLE either. You will feel the exact same way. Read my review on 10/21
