Emcee...I've been saying since the beginning I WAS judging the video..I was being accused of judging THE PERFORMANCE from the video...

I was saying that the video sucked...but I can't judge because I wasn't at the performance.

And i know she spoke some lines.but that was in the "control freak" part where she was supposed to speak the lines. the part that was flat was the "ever since puberty everybody stares at me" part..and she was "singing" that.
and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...

Um, she SPOKE the "everybody stares at me" part. She was NOT flat and sounded great live.

I didn't mean that LINE..I meant that PART on the video...
GEEZ guys I just said the video sucked..not your precious Idina..I like Idina as much as you and I'm sure she did fabulous live...
THE VIDEO SUCKS...stop freaking arguing with me..you know it does too.

At least she wasn't screaming and gasping for air.

From that clip, she sounds like she's improved immensely from her Wicked days.

Give the girl a break.

You just said "the part that was flat was the "ever since puberty, everybody stares at me" part." But she spoke the "everybody stares at me." I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, but you always seem to contradict yourself. Whatever. The video sounded fine to me, but I didn't really pay that close attention.

I'm figuring this isn't illegal since it was a public event and there were no announcements banning videography or picture taking--but if it is illegal (or just uncouth) to have footage on this site, I will take it down immediatley. (I realize I can't spell, forgive me, I'm tired).

OK-so since the bway video didn't give what I believe to be the most accurate portrayal, heres another (better in my opinion) take. My final thoughts: doesn't matter if you hate Idina or love Idina, she and Tracie totally tore it up.

Must this woman's every move be dissected, analyzed, torn apart, chewed up and spit out at every chance. Give the woman a break..she's human! Not SuperWoman.

Idina does tend to mumble words and slur up to the notes, and although most of the words she sings are "on", she is flat on some instances...usually when she needs a breath. She is human though and has her faults, but she is an amazing performer and wouldn't be getting all this attention if she wasn't something special.

YAY great video! Thank you so much, i think she sounded great but hey thats me! though i dont have a very good ear for this kind of stuff unless its me so hey. I LOVED IT!

Am I the only fool who thought this thread had something to do with Idina Menzel and The Man of La Mancha when they read the title?

When I saw that abbreviation, that's what popped into my head...

Idina does have some problems with eununciation/diction sometimes, but after hearing her today, I just noticed this HUGE improvement in her voice in itself. It has a much richer and fuller quality rather than the sound she had before (and I'm judging off The Wild Party, Wicked, and both the Zipper and Ars Nova concerts). As she gets older, her voice also nears the peak of tone and it's a great tone to listen to.

I thought (fromt the video) that Idina was fine. They didn't really show a part of the song that showcased her voice, but she sounded good.

Tracie was wonderful. I can't wait for the movie.

Idina often speaks certain notes. She wasn't flat, she was utilizing technique she's acquired from her voice teacher, Tonya Travers, who works with her to try and make everything come from a natural speech-level place.

I liked the casual, organic take. It was the beginning of the song, and it makes sense to begin casually so that the belty part at the end is more exciting.

i love idina...loved her at Bryant Park...and i was there for the live show...but it's interesting to me...i thought her voice sounded young...soooo young...

which to me says that even where you were sitting makes a difference in what you hear...let alone a recording...and WHERE the recorder was sitting. i was about 1/4 of the way back. she was great...but not nearly as hard core as i expected. i loved it, didn't hear her as flat at all (haven't seen the clips), but it was very different than i expected.

for whatever that is worth...
