If Anything Goes came back

THANK YOU!! I said in an earlie thread that Ms. Gravitte really should play the role. Her classic Broadway belt would be perfect. I think Donna Murphy can play larger than life, but I can't see her being over the top funny, in a good way. Other options if we wanted to consider them... Jenny Powers or Megan Mullally.
Moonface must be played by Walter Bobbie

Jewishboy, I disagree, I think Donna Murphy can do all kinds of funny, from over-the-top (you must hear the cast recording of SHOWING OFF, an off-Broadway revue she did in the 80s with Veanne Cox where she does incredibly hilarious over the top comedy) to the more quiet comedic skills she showed in FOLLIES. Sad to read she turned down the chance to play Reno, I do know she is very very picky about the roles she plays (one of the reason her Broadway appearances are so far in between).
Debbie Gravitte is fabulous though. That clip of "Welcome to the Theater" is great. Easily the best rendition I have listened to (and I saw it at Encores! in February). Why didn't she do the show at City Center? Why isn't she getting cast in roles on Broadway left and right? Along with Sherie Rene Scott, she is my favorite Broadway belter right now.
Everyone says that they are trying to cast a big Hollywood name though (hence the Catherine Z. Jones rumors).

Ziemba? I would like to hear her sing it, maybe, but under no circumstance would I want to see her perform the role (the most boring actress on Broadway, IMO).
Ray, is the Showing Off CD available? Do you know where? I think we're going to have to agree to disagree again :). But, you know how much I love and respect Donna Murphy.

"What about Karen Ziemba?"
Almost as interesting as watching paint dry.

Posted: 4/1/08 at 9:54pmKaren Ziemba is fantastic and she would make a great Reno at the Papermill or another high-profile regional theatre. I don't think she could carry the show on Broadway at all though. Talk about someone who can't do larger than life.
