There's no denying that Spider-Man: TOTD has had some rough patches in its development, but the show has some haunting, poignant moments that I cannot get out of my head, especially in light of recent world events. Mary Jane's song "If The World Should End" has been haunting me all week. I can't help but wonder, with everything going on in Egypt, how many MJ & Peters are holed up in some dingy apartment, scared to leave to get food, just holding onto each other and waiting.
"And the sky tonight is luminous for all the wrong reasons
And every doorway is hiding something
And if this world should all come crashing down..."
My heart breaks for the people of Egypt right now, living in the turmoil that we only have to experience on stage and then laugh about later. When I saw Spider-Man, I knew that scene was foreshadowing events that would be inescapable realities in our world someday soon. I didn't think it would be so soon. It's just too bad none of them will turn into Spidey and save the day for their country.
Art mirrors life. Or life mirrors art, I suppose. Whichever school of thought you follow, this one's hitting hard.

I just mean that so often we sit through something "horrible" for an hour or two tops, and then go back to our happy lives and forget about the troubles people actually have to endure every day.
We can escape it once we leave the stage or theatre, but some people can't escape this stuff. It's sad. I mean, I guess that's life...
I guess that is YOUR life. Lucky you.

I agree. The world was perfect until Egypt effed it up.

Unless you're significantly under the age of 14, HummingAlong (nee whatever), there's just no, I mean...
So, watching SMTOTD is equivalent to spending three hours in Egypt?

There can be miracle when you believe. Though hope is frail, it's hard to kill.

I can see those fighter planes
Across the mud huts as children sleep
Through the alleys of a quiet city street.
Up the staircase to the first floor
We turn the key and slowly unlock the door
As a man breathes into his saxophone
And through the walls you hear the city groan.
Outside, is America
Outside, is America
America.
If only Egypt had Spider-Man.

Right. Because it was clear that someday soon the world was going to need Spider-Man but I had no idea it would be so soon. Life imitating art imitating movies imitating comic books? Or is it the other way around? Really makes you think.

Brava, PRS! Get Julie Taymor on the phone! Bring me Val Kilmer. It's time for a reboot of that Ten Commandments musical.
Is anybody listening? Does anybody hear?
Val won't show up...again.
Phyll, that is seriously bril!

This thread cracked me up. What the hell is she talking about?
Taymor will still be at work at the Foxwoods long after the world ends.
Not many people would give a crap about Spidey should the world end today.
I am so picturing Anderson Cooper in drag playing Mary Jane in a grotto in Egypt right now!
OK - the Spidey and Prince of Egypt picture made me giggle!!! Loved It!!!
So did Anderson Cooper in Drag!
