For those of you who saw the event live, any thought's? I found the Urinetown excerpt thing in the pre-show really amusing.
Little Sally: Gee, Officer Lockstock, I thought you were straight...
Officer: Whoa whoa, Little Sally! No man is straight when it comes to Hugh Jackman.
Also some of my friends with me were rooting for Wicked to win Best Musical, and they loved it when the behind-the-scenes-guys messed up and put wicked on the screen marquis as Best Musical just as Hugh was anouncing Ave Q to be the winner. Interesting mistake.
And of course I loved how Hugh prolonged his acceptance speech during commercial. Yes, we get it your the host, Hugh.
Such a good time at the Tony's last night. Even though some the the mezzanine audience was a little too loud such as yelling "I love you, Hugh! IN THE MIDDLE OF HIS ACCEPTANCE SPEECH. But whatever, I love them all.
I actually didnt notice them putting Wicked up until my friend told me because I was too busy screaming like a lunatic.
I really liked seeing the old commercials, the Hair one made me laugh.
But the best part for me was a tie between the footage of the Q pizza party and the thing where they showed the composers working on the two shows
Yes! I loved it when they were saying "We were thinking how much our lives suck so we wrote a musical."
I especially liked the commercial with Mama Mia and Chicago and everything in all different languages (even though I thought the woman who did Chicago from London look really plastic and frightening.
Yes, it's sad that I'm posting on my own message. I thought of more things for this.
Such as Hugh teaching Sean Combs to sing "Oh, What a Beautifuls Mornin'" after singing with the audience.
He sang another song during commercial break, that was jazzy and he sounded nice, but I wasn't paying attention because I was dancing with a friend in the aisle (not in the annoying way but just a waltz that wasn't in anybody's way).
And Hugh singing some Austrailin song after discovering that there were a few 'aussies' in the audience. Hugh really was the life of the party.
And in the pre-show, when they were telling the actors that if they won they only have 45 sec for their acceptance speech before they play a clip of Elaine Stritch screaming her acceptance speech, and then they must exit stage left to be 'fed to the press'.
So much fun at the Tony's!
I was just telling my mom that Sean sang Oh What a Beautiful Morning! That was really funny when he didnt know the words and everyone else did.
AnnaFabulous, any idea what Australian song it was? (This Aussie had to get out of bed at an ungodly hour [10am lol] to watch the broadcast..)
Well, I think it was the anthem, but I'm not sure. Something about naming alot of geographical locations (NewYork, LA, London)and then saying austrailia is great or the best or something. I wasn't paying attention, because I was being distracted by a friend. Sorry!
He sang Peter Allens "I Still Call Australia Home"
Oh right, thanks.. I thought you meant something that wasn't in BFO..
It's not the national anthem, but it might as well be, its very well known. I actually shed a tear during that scene. When I saw it, I'd been away from home for about six weeks, was v-homesick and he ended the number with "Thankyou, Sydney" [Sydney=home]. It really affected me at the time, though the people sitting next to me didn't quite get it.
He also sang That Old Black Magic after one of the earlier commercial breaks. I thought it was very sweet when during the commercial after he won Best Actor, he ran offstage to hug Deb. I thought that was adorable. Such a great guy. Quite the host.

Perhaps your seats were very bad and far, far up. It was Nathan that announced 'Q' as the winner. Both sexy in their own way, but two very different people.

i like Avenue Q's video of the nominees that was so funny! umm the urinetown thing at the beginning was also quite amusing and P diddy getting a karaoke lesson from Hugh Jackman!! HAHA
I went once in the 60's
We sat upstairs @ the Shubert for $ 5 a piece. Besides having to put on a monkey suit for the night it was a pleasant experience as I recall.
ckeaton: sorry about the slip. My seats were neither bad nor far, I was just being a little Jackman obsessive, and somehow I was so very smart enough to say "Hugh" instead of "Nathan"! Sorry!

Broadway-the Movie (or whatever the exact title is) is a feature documentary that opens this Friday. There was a small ad in last Sunday's paper. Its in two theatres and one of them is the Sutton. The other may be the Anjelika.
There is some little-seen footage of true legends like Laurette Taylor who most of us have only heard of (if we have heard of her at all). She died in 1946 shortly after creating Amanda in The Glass Menagerie.
Seems like a must-see.
