And in other breaking news, I hate Samuel Beckett. Ignorant opinion? Perhaps...

Beckett must been SEEN in a first rate production with actors and, ESPECIALLY, a director who understands him to be appreciated.
Sheer genius (though he hardly needs me to defend him).
I have to say that headshots, vocal coaches, etc. are also paid by non-working actors who make their living working in restaurants and temping, so those costs are not accounted for in the Broadway salary. Also, depending on where one lives in NYC, that weekly salary can be the months rent...therefore, one would have 4200 left over for the month...and with bills, maybe have 3800 left. That is more than enough to live happily. However, we can't forget about those "Good Vibration" actors who are now collecting Unemployment.

Also, there are many opportunities for overtime hours that actors can get. For example, they get paid when they record the cd, they get paid when they appear for publicity, they get paid for understudy rehearsal. So there are many opportunities that can get an actor more than the base salary.
