The set was bare-bone minimal, lighting was lighting, and anything else was just mediocre. The acting and script was what made the production.
I did not know much about the show's subject matter going in, but now I just can't get enough of what the show was about. Dreyfuss is a class act, his portrayal of Heschel was not only believable but fundamentally sound to what Heschel probably was. I know Dreyfuss is also a humanitarian and it clearly shows in his acting. I am not sure what Drefuss' personal beliefs are but because he agreed to play this character, I am sure he finds the material endearing to him.
What I read in the NTY article about not fully memorizing his lines, his acting more than makes up for it. Yes he and Eckert just sit in chair most of the time but the dialogue between them was as authentic as possible. During certain lines, you could see these actors turning into regular joe's who are getting an emotional fix.
Talking to a friend, she told me that all I saw was good acting. Well maybe it was good acting but with a little bit extra heart.
