The first thought that went through my mind was also, 'how could this possibly recoup in a 12 week limited run?' Perhaps if the entire London cast were able to come to the states (bringing along all the scenery and production elements) that would be possible, but it seems like there would have to be a lot of concession with the various American stage unions to allow that to happen.) And even then -- GYPSY is a big show that is expensive to run each week...
But Staunton's performance really is exquisite: easily one of the best performances I've ever seen in a musical on the London stage, and it would be wonderful for American audiences to get to experience it.
