Oy, LittleWing. You had me thinking that he actually said that. I was looking up and down the page for it.

"It's hard as I think back….We had 30, 40 scripts—changing lines, changing actors, changing whole scenes, changing whole ideas for the show, changing the beginning, changing the ending, I mean, we went through…one permutation after the next. It was quite amazing." —Director/writer Joseph Brooks, on the creative process behind the show"

One of the scripts that was thrown out must have contained the plot, because there sure wasn't one the night I saw it.

Is William Finn going to sue Brooks for stealing from "A New Brain"?

I bet there was a song called "Everytime a bell rings, an angel gets its wings"

I don't know. It doesn't have any monkeys, does it?

No, and perhaps.

To quote the New York review, who doesn't enjoy a nonsensical, pointless pirate interlude? (I haven't seen it, but I'm thinking about it, and that I'm thinking about it is scaring me.)

Speaking of A NEW BRAIN and stealing, isn't the whole "Brain Dead/Whenever I Dream/Eating Myself Up Alive/The Music Still Goes On" fantsy sequence more or less a rip-off of the "Bye Bye Life" sequence in the movie ALL THAT JAZZ?

so, i was watching the In my life opening night vid. on Broadway.com and noticed that Jessica's character sings a song where she says "I know these bales of hay are going to be there..." What is that referring too? I don't get the lyric.

CATS was just a huge disappointment...I heard SO much about it and couldn't wait to see it in chi-town...then did...and was totally mortified. I hope I have a chance to see 'In My Life'...not as a chance to 'gloat' over the failure, but a chance to judge for myself. If it lasts until December, I'll see it.

Are you seriously THAT stupid!? Jessica looks like a horse!

No, honestly, I have no idea what it means anyway. I'm guessing it is a phrase no longer used - but fit with the rhythm of the song...or Brooks is trying (albeit unsuccessfully) to coin a new phrase.

And, by the way, both I, and my two cats, hated Cats.

The bales of hay line is in reference to that postulate that some philosopher made that if a horse sees two equally good bales of hay on either side of him he will starve to death trying to decide which one, and Jessica's character thinks that it is fate that JT knows the obscure postulate, or something along those lines.
