As much as I love Sofia Vergara's work (especially in Modern Family) and think she could act Daniela brilliantly, she has a less than stellr singing voice, at least based on her run in Chicago. I think Sara Ramirez would bring both the comedic sass and the vocal chops all the way. I'd love to see her play Daniela on film.

"My friend and I were re-watching the Madonna episode of Glee today, and I had a thought: how about Naya Rivera (Santana) for Vanessa? They only showed a scant bit of her singing but she was surprisingly good"

Isn't she good?! I think after that episode they realized how good she was because this season on Glee she's featured a lot more than last time.

Sara Ramirez would be amazing in the movie.

Arielle Jacobs' voice is astounding. They would be dumb not to have her in the movie as Nina. She's a star.

As I was listening to music on my iPod, I came across Kristinia DeBarge, James DeBarge's (of musical group, DeBarge) daughter, and her single "Goodbye." Although she isn't really a star, I could see her as Carla. Any thoughts?

Gina Torres would be great as Camila and Zoe Saldana(can she sing?) As Vanessa if they can't get Karen( I hope they do i love karen!)and Sofia Vergara would be Perfect as Daniela!!!!!as much as I love J-lo I just think Sofia can nail this!

Naya Rivera sang a solo tonight on Glee and I thought she sounded fantastic. I'd love to see her as Vanessa in the movie.

Not sure if I see Naya Rivera as Vanessa, but she is most certainly a very good singer. If you really want to hear her sing, listen to Glee's version of "River Deep, Mountain High".

I like Naya Rivera a lot and was pleased to see her get a solo tonight on Glee, but I don't think her voice suits the role of Vanessa. I also worry about how she'd act the role. Perhaps it's not fair to judge off Glee because Santana is written to be one-dimensionally b!tchy, so her playing all her lines that way is in characters; but Vanessa is IMO a really tough role to act because she's so dissatisfied/fed up with her life that she can come off as whiny and totally negative if the actor doesn't give a really nuanced performance that shows her underlying vulnerability. I don't trust Naya Rivera to bring that much nuance to the role, especially since I know that on Glee, the characters have evolved to suit the actors' strengths (eg Quinn was envisioned as far more nasty and stuck-up than she turned out to be, because Dianna Agron brought a more sympathetic vibe to the part). Basically I think the role of Vanessa needs a really strong actress. Personally I haven't heard any suggestions that I think meet the bill except Karen Olivo herself, but then I've mostly heard people debating between Karen and Naya...

I think Zoe Saldana is an interesting thought for Vanessa. Can she sing? I have never heard her sing in anything as far as I know.

International Mexican superstar and wife of music executive Tommy Mottola, Thalia, would be awesome as Daniela. Thalia is drop dead gorgeous, she is a great singer,and her acting is amazing. She's known as the queen of Mexican soap operas.

Off topic, I wonder if Thalia and Lin Manuel Miranda are related, considering Thalia's full name is Ariadna Thalia Sodi MIRANDA. I thought I saw an interview w/ Lin Manuel stating he was Puerto Rican and Mexican.

Any thoughts on when they will be announcing a cast list or even people being "in talks"? I am guessing they might base some of their timing around the closing of the show, and of course how far along the project is.

sorry if this is supposed to be obvious or not, but is kenny ortega directing and choreographing? i imagine some of the choreography will stay the same, but I wasn't sure if he was choreographing as well.

She can sing! I'll be excited if she gets the part. I'm really excited to find out the cast which should be very soon if they want to keep to schedule and film the outdoor scenes this summer. As of about three weeks ago they were still in budget discussions so I don't know how soon the cast will be revealed.
