In the Age of the Music Video...

I will ALWAYS be a BobbyBubby-Soxer!
And Patronus --- yes, thankfully there are people like us who "see" the talent...
...and not just the "curves."
Though I do like eye-candy myself, admittedly. I would much rather watch Ernest Borgnine in "Marty" than Paris Hilton in... anything you can ever mention.

And I'll always be a Best12Barer
I enjoy a little eye candy once in a while. But I tend to go to the WB for that, not Broadway.
Statements like "Gwen Verdon can't sing", or "Carol Channing is absurb", send pains down my spine. What are people trying to prove with this comments. That they are ignorant? It seems that uniqueness isn't prized as much as it was.

Well, the other thing about these "youthful fanatics" is that they talk in extremes... about everything. This is how the EMPHASIZE THEIR POINTS (or they use all caps like that).
It's the BEST EVER or the WORST EVER... for any subtle criticism or observation they may have.
I would take all of these tweeny comments with a grain of salt... and hand them each a lollipop and tell them to chill.
My only solace here is that at least they have true passion about "our favorite subject"... misguided as it may be.
Sings to them quietly from Sweeney:
"You are young... life has been kind to you... you will learn."

I'm interested in the whole world of musical theatre. I'd like to think everyone on here is too, but I know, that's not possible.
"I don't like those types of musicals...". Ugh.
You're right though, that Sweeney quote is really the only answer.
I appreciate the enthusiasm of some people, but come on, this is Broadway, not a Rock concert.

There are many of us that are interested in the "whole world of musical theatre," but honestly I'm fascinated by ALL perspectives.
I'd like to hear from the kid who only knows Wicked or Rent. I'm glad he/she decided to use this message board and see what else is "out there." If they really were only interested in all things Wicked or Rent, they probably wouldn't have joined this particular board.
To me, that says they're at least mildly curious about other shows and the vast world of Broadway. They may lose interest in five minutes, or they might hang out and learn something... and grow addicted to it for life. I'm hoping that one or two of my posts might make them think for a minute about a show or a performer they don't already know.
I came to love Broadway at a very early age, because my parents were both in the biz. I don't have a "normal" perspective about it, because I was taken to the theatre at a very young age to watch "Mommy" in a show, etc. I'm curious to find out what draws other people to the Great White Way. I've learned from reading comments by the "wise old crowd" of posters, but I've also learned quite a bit from the "youthful ignorance" posters as well. There are more of THEM out there than the knowledgeable birds (like me).
We don't share common experiences, common knowledge, common talents or any of that.
The one thing we ALL have in common... is a PASSION for Broadway on some level. That's why I (for one) keep coming back for "more" here.
