I hope they hire from within. There are so many talented understudies in the show that I hope a few of them can get bumped up.

I have seen everyone but Javier as Sonny, seeing as he's never gone on for Sonny, Broadway or Off-Broadway. And rightfully, most of them should not be bumped. Whether thats because they are not good in their part, are too valuable to loose as an understudy, etc.

Camila- Nancy Ticotin. She was in the show Off-Broadway, and before Priscilla Lopez and she is AMAZING!
Vanessa- No one in the current cast who understudies Vanessa should be bumped. They are too valuable as other understudies to lose them.

Posted: 7/19/08 at 4:20pmI saw In The Heights back in May and was amazed by all the performances. In the past when I have seen understudies in large roles, even when they are good, it's still somewhat obvious that they don't meld perfectly into the cast. When I got back to my hotel after seeing the show, I looked through the souvenir program and CD artwork and couldn't understand why the extremely talented, yet short-haired (or at least not long and curly) Nina I had just seen wasn't pictured. I finally looked at the little Replacement insert they have and sure enough I had just seen Krysta Rodruiguez. I will admit I have not seen Mandy Gonzalez in the role, but all I can say is that Krysta WAS Nina when I saw her perform. Superb acting, beautiful voice, and awesome chemistry with the cast, especially Jackson, Gomez, and Lopez. So yeah, my vote would absolutely be Krysta.
